Do you let a fire burn until the fire truck shows up? Do you leave the rescuing of others to the rescue services?

Don't lamely deflect, I thought better of you, honestly.
Do you advocate fire & rescue services should be funded by taxes in states where they are currently?
Smells socialist as # to me.

You are "lamely deflecting" by bringing up something completely irrelevant.

Do you support or condemn free meals for your old folk?
Don't be a weasel.
I support tax funded food for vulnerable old people.

With the seriously nation disabling debt that we have, next of kin should be made by law to assume these cost in 90% of cases. I mean if you really want to protect the future.

So you don't support the state helping people with no families close?

Good for you. But I find that to be an excuse to do nothing.

It's going to have to be the reality for us all in the future. I'm not saying it for partisan reasons; tough decisions await every society and political party across the western world. We're living longer after retirement than at any time in history. How can the workforce pay enough taxes to cover potentially 30 years of inactivity and declining health?

I'm fully in favour of social health care and looking after our elders and those who've worked all their lives. Nevertheless, whatever way we cut it, we'll need a new approach to cope with a growing, ageing population that no longer pays into the system.

Factor in the changing world of work and it becomes hard to see future generations having the income to save for their old age. It's hard enough for people to get on the property ladder these days and it isn't getting better with the shortage of homes.

I am willing to allow for those case. Thats the way it was at one time for the large part. Kin folk had to take in even folks that may have been related strangers.

But the suck azzes saw how much money there was in getting the government involved uncle sugar with a check book and tax powers. The door kept swinging open wider and wider until we have the mess we have today.

My opinion to yours is that we need to sharp turn away from the big program solutions. Get real and get back to the earth by making the extended families the solution. Would cover 75% well enough and give tax breaks to kinfolk rather than collecting tax. This is far more healthy a solution for world mentally and spiritually.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of cuts. Stop the Corporate welfare, bailing out the to big to fail, stop the do nothing, go nowhere space program, But most of all...Stop the for profit wars.

But I'm a realist and have options. Most people don't....But let's blame the poor people and the Mexicans for the countries problems and totally ignore boondoggle projects, graft, corruption of the wealthy, banking off shore elite.

We could feed everyone and buy them a pair of Nikes if we would only implement a few of the BS items I listed above.

But like I said I'm a realist with options. Glad I don't have to hang around and watch the cities burn. Desperate people do desperate things. Especially hungry desperate people. You don't need a lot of awareness to read the handwriting on the wall...

I'd pay an extra ten pence in the pound in taxes if I knew it was dedicated to my fellow citizens needing health or social care.
I'll need it myself one day,.

I don't disagree with you there - families are where it's at

In reality, it's not so simple. Families aren't quite the norm they once were. So many single parent families etc. Fractured and divided communities. Disposable and saveable incomes are decreasing which leaves less to put aside for others. The cost of care often means parents have to sell their homes to pay for it instead of handing them down as inheritance. Their kids aren't buying homes until they're in their 30s. Rents increase which fuels the gap in income versus savings.
