It's the older veterans, and ones eligible for social security and such, who are going to be hit hardest.

Well you do switched over to Medicare from Tricare at 65, so I'm not sure how they will be hit the hardest compared to the last 30 years or so. If you are a disabled vet that part continues as you are eligible to use the vet hospital. I do not see Medicare going away, ever...

It's their disability pensions that will be affected, especially for older unemployable ones. No one knows what is going to happen to VA health care, or Medicare. To say it's going nowhere is unreasonably optimistic.

But for now, its disability pensions and retirement pensions.

Many adult children who complain about their parents losing assistance, are just selfishly trying to preserve their meager inheritance, and not wanting to inconvenience themselves, by helping dad and/or mom survive. They're angry for the wrong reason. I see it all the time.

Funny thing... I cant seem to find any videos or recordings or interviews of President Trump saying any thing of the sort.
Wonder if that could be because he never said anything like that?

For those of you who are self proclaimed political experts and believe everything that MSNBC tells you ver batum. You are being played a chump.... and you would be insulted if you had any sense.

The Trump budget......for the most part..... does away with automatic increases in programs that democrats love to have written into bills, but not talk about to the public... so yes, in theory you can call it a cut.

So if the bill is written in a way that every year the budget gets raised 30%..... if that 30% increase is stripped away, you have people on the news telling you things like.... President Trump is taking away a billion dollars from feeding the poor.
Can ya see the word play? ..... The truth is that the agencies that get these automatic budget increases..... dont use that new money to help as many people as they can..... they give themselves raises.... they hire more and more staff..... they go to more conventions........ and the hungry stay hungry... because the bureaucrats livelihood depends on it.
The federal has no business being involved with feeding people... that is what the states should be doing. Every person on the federal payroll involved with matters like this is taking away money that the states can make more efficient use of...... same goes for schools. Federal employees getting education dollars..... does nothing but takes money better spent at the state level away from children and schools.

So where would you cut funding to reduce the $450 billion deficit?

The PROPOSD budget eliminates the Community Development Block Grant, a federal boondoggle that’s largely been used for waste and fraud. It costs $3 billion per year. As the budget proposal stat
ed. Meals on Wheels does get some money from the CDGB. But the vast majority of its funding comes from elsewhere, and as even the leftists over at Snopes state, ‘the effect of CDBG cuts on local Meals on Wheels groups is uncertain.’ Only 3 percent of the Meals on Wheels budget nationally comes from the federal government at all, and only a portion of that comes from the CDBG.”a reply to: olaru12

Every other English speaking country seems to be able to provide health and social care to it's citizens through a universal insurance/taxation system.
It's a #ing shame the US does not.
Close those bases in the EU, tell the EU to man the # up and be the strong 500+ million superstate it pretends to be.

Don't get me wrong...I have no problem with Americans being covered. But NOT by the government who would "control" it and NOT by raising our out-of-control debt. Closing some bases...making others pay their way...trimming the fat and corruption at home...ending the travel and parties of the thousands of government departments...YES!

And then...if you can work for your benefits, you must. If you can't...actually can not...different story.

Where are thesepeoples family? I know not every older person has one, but for the ones that do and don't help there aging loved ones is frankly sad.

I'm 32, my grandmother got dementia very quickly and to a very extreme extent. She had to go to assisted living for constant medical care.

I visited her every day till the day she passed. When I was there the nursestold me many, if not most people there rarely visitors stopped by even less of people of my age.

We in America need to care for our family's and not let the government do it all.

My family cared for me when I needed them, and I will care for them when they need me.

It is good that you visited you grandmother at her assisted living home. Did you pay the bill too? My daughter is an administrator and her place is 6000 to 6800 PER MONTH. Your grandmother was lucky to have access to that kind of money.

This is the result of government dependency, not of cuts. To leave the caring of family members to the government, and worse, to show indignation when that government can no longer do it, only reveals how little one cared in the first place.

And if they don't have families?

Why don't you go do it? Since you care so much.

I do. With my taxes.

Which is a hell of a lot simpler than visiting old strangers to change their bedding and give them meds.

I'd like to keep that concept instead of moving backwards.

Meals on Wheels has a proven track record and the church I used to work for gave money to the local organization.

It is funded from multiple sources at the county level and I'm sure the Federal funding is grant-based or some such arrangement. It is not currently a "Big government program.

MOW was started in the 1970's with a
Federal funding push but now these are local county programs. Structure and funding vary.

Today, Meals on Wheels programmes generally operate at the county level or smaller. Programmes vary widely in their size, service provided, organisation, and funding.

They are cost-reducing and improve the lives of the elderly.

programs also reduce government expenditures by reducing the need of recipients to use hospitals, nursing homes or other expensive community-based services.

Cutting MOW is not smart. It has a proven track record and benefit to the elderly, the disabled and homebound, and reduces costs of care.

There are programs that are ineffective or wasteful, but MOW is not that program.

our family paid for her stay there yes.

she got sick very quickly and died a few months after.

I don't have a problem with government helping people that need it but from what i saw at that place, it seems that a lot of people would just drop their family members there and never visit or anything.

i don't see how people can just let their family members suffer from hunger, illness or even loneliness.

Maybe i came from a different kind of family but i could NEVER let anyone in my family suffer.

Yea I'm sure that's it. Everyone complaining is just looking out for their inheritance. No one gives a rat's ass about people actually going from bad to hopeless. Man, I'd hate to live in your world. What an ugly place it must be.
