Ah sorry, I assumed you were US.
I agree, Australia has an excellent system as well, same Canada, NZ, and elsewhere.
Strange how some US members are happy for their fellow citizens to go bankrupt after getting cancer or whatever, and whine that vulnerable old people get free food.
Sounds heartless as # to me, but I live in a dirty commie country like yourself so we'll probably never understand it.

I don't get it either, must be a dirty commie thing

Maybe its just me but it seems like some people actual revel in their peers misfortune, segments of our society are terminally ill.

California costed out what you are suggesting and it came to almost 2/3 of the entire defence budget of the US just for their state.

Maybe they should go back to the drawing book, even Thailand has universal healthcare.
Are you saying the US couldn't afford to offer it's citizens what we take for granted with some changes?
Seems like lame fiscal excuses to me.
Even Egypt has universal healthcare.

Thailand? yeah sure you could drastically reduce the services and pay for everyone, but would that be acceptable?

50% more hospital beds per 1000 people in the US vs Thailand
Thailand has nearly 3 times the infant mortality rate
Life expectancy is 5 years shorter in Thailand
There are nearly 6 times more physicians in the US per thousand people than in Thailand
Thailand people are 10% less likely to reach 65 than Amercians.

But, yeah, their health system is ranked highly.

Interestingly Thai's also are far more likely to have a job.

How about Egypt?

Same position on hospital beds 50% less per 100 people vs the US
Infant mortality rate 4 times higher.
4 years less life expectancy
Over 4 times less physicians per 1000 people vs the US.
Nearly 15% less likely to reach the age of 65.

Agreed

...factoid for a pub quiz, 3 times as many Brits emigrate permanently to Australia than the US.
Kinda says it all really.

I think we are singing from the same songsheet but I'm unsure so I'll ask:
Do you support universal healthcare funded by general taxation?
I do of course, just confirming your stance.

If you mean healthcare accessible and affordable for everyone, then yes.
If you mean govt funded and managed healthcare for everyone, then no.

Well the ocean still looks good behind double glazing and a hot fire burning in the fireplace

I have lake views with a western sunset (most likely the exact opposite of what you get) and the biting critters stay out of my way, well at least the ones that know whats good for them.

That sounds wonderful, it must be breathtaking beautiful. I live in the Snake River Valley. Rattlesnakes, bears, cougars, wolves. Snow topped mountains on one side and high desert prairie on the other.

Haha you nut, it's 28C outside at the moment!
Sounds gorgeous where you are though, did you get surgery on the Australian healthcare system to remove your Isle of White webbed fingers?

Oh my gosh, who would ever move to somewhere called Snake River Valley??!!!
I wouldn't leave the house with all those killer beasts roaming the land lol!
Snow topped mountains sounds beautiful though.

On-topic, how much would treatment for a rattlesnake bite cost, assuming you are lucky enough to make it to the hospital?

Easier for eating your free meals when you get old as well

...and you've always got the choice for surgery under the Australian universal healthcare system if you change your mind.

As the number of seniors has increased, so has the number of people, particularly the very old, who need food. Yet over the years, increases in federal funding — funneled primarily through the Older Americans Act, which accounts for about 35 percent of the budgets of the nation’s roughly 5,000 meal programs — have not kept pace with the need, as I reported for The Nation in 1998 and 2013.

Why are there 5000 meal programs?

It's sad but we have a lot of truly bad people in this country now after decades of right-wing propaganda and conditioning.

Trump shoving old and disabled people out of the way.

Stay classy Trump.

what really got me about this clip is the way trump takes on a "Mussolini stance" after getting in front of that one guy....I have seen that "stance" in archival films of the Italian dictator. trump is an embarrassment on so many levels, this is just another one.

Another question.....why is the federal government program the only and most praised solution? Its a cash cow for some we know but really against next of kin should be liable for freeing MaMa
