It's not an easy question to answer.

It's a drama/ soap, but a parody of one at the same time. It's known for its quirky characters and unexpected plot turns. It weaves its way through comedy, romance, mystery, horror, and even paranormal.

The series revolved around a murder mystery and transcended to become many things.

It is just another soapy.

As for the lovely poster who said

and transcended

I wouldn't use words like that to describe any soap. Weird would be a better fit for this one ... even quirky would fit.

I like quirky for Twin Peaks if you happen to like soaps.

You must not have seen Fire Walk With Me!

It brought the themes of the series to a whole new level in the Lynch-verse.

I would even say the body of Lynch's work focuses on the duality of characters we see in Twin Peaks. Especially his latter films seem to suggest a connection to this soapy, quirky series.

The very name, "Twin Peaks," suggests a bipolarity, and that has been David Lynch's theme for a better part of his career.

It is 2017 and the producers have to keep with the times.

I think you will be seeing lots and lots of Twin Peaks.

If the site allowed it (and they don't) I would show you some Twin Peaks from Vikings or Game of Thrones. They had many a great shot at Twin Peaks. Some of them were quite perky. Perky goes well with Quirky.

Ugh, that joke is so old!

When has David Lynch ever given a crap about competing for an audience?

That's what makes his work pure and unspoiled.

Yes, there will be boobies!

It takes place in the fictional town of Twin Peaks in Washington State and some of it was shot locally. The exterior of the hotel in the series, "The Great Northern Hotel", was Snoqualmie Falls Lodge in Snoqualmie, WA (just 30 minutes from Seattle)-- it is now called the, "Salish Lodge & Spa", and their website is promoting what they call, "The Twin Peaks Experience"... Venture into the strange world of "Twin Peaks" at Salish Lodge & Spa, the inspiration for the iconic Great Northern Hotel. Will this new show continue the storyline of the original Twin Peaks like The X Files did? I mean do i need to watch the old show to know the characters and storyline so the new show makes sense.

I always planned to watch the show because i've heard how great it is. Never got around to it, i've only watched the first few episodes of Season 1.

I'm not 100% sure, but I imagine there will be some continuity.

Yes. It's only like what, 30 episodes? It's not like trying to catch up on 25 years of Gunsmoke. It's a great little show.

Just started watching it, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. Also live less than an hour way from Salish Lodge, reasonable accommodations, not such a reasonable price 360$ a night.
