Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee, is the front-runner to be named FBI director, according to several White House officials and advisers. Senior administration officials have told others in the last 12 hours that Trump is expected to pick Lieberman to replace FBI director James Comey, who was abruptly fired by Trump last week.

And the clown car just keeps chugging along. I wonder if Trump thinks that by appointing a democrat, will change anything.

Of course, it won't because Lieberman wasn't left enough for the Democrats. He won't be acceptable, and he finished his tenure as an Independent for that reason. The party primaried him, won, and he ran against the primary challenger and beat him as a third party candidate.

He endorsed John McCain in 2008.

That's bad news. It would amount to Israel running the FBI

Who hires the FBI Director? The President? Jeff Sessions? Other?

Politicians should not run intelligence/law enforcement agencies.

Say what you want about Comey, he made a mistake by making a public statement regarding the Clinton emails. Regardless, he always tried to protect the FBI from politics.

What the hell is Trump thinking? If he's trying to throw Dems some kind of bone I see it backfiring pretty much immediately. Aside from that? Joe Lieberman is old as dirt and retired. I would be surprised if he even wanted to take the job.

The weirdness just never ends.

I don't think it matters much in an administration that is on burrowed time anyway.

This must be some kind of joke. Jon Liebermann? He was not among those names which Trump listed, so where on Earth did Politico (Democrats) pick his name up .. .Oh yes, right. He is a demented wimpy version of Jimmy Carter, a nice chap going around his office trying to find his socks, ignoring the fuzz about Hillary, and DNC crimes. Right-o.

It's a presidential appointment that lasts 10 years and has to be confirmed by the Senate.... Which means Joe would be 85 when his time as Director would end.

Insanity.

Im going to say no! We need an unknown obscure law enforcer from a state law enforcement agency that has yet to be tainted to get promoted, not another damn politician. Im crossing my fingers on hoping this fizzles out as a reality.

Well another part of that Lester Holt interview revealed that not only was trump thinking about the RUSHER thing when he decided to fire James Comey, he also said he thought his move would please the democrats.

What kind of game is he playing with people's lives and the country ??? Geez.

Did Comey's tenure run 10 years?

It's very bizarre.

I can't imagine what goes through that dude's head. Firing Comey would have made more sense to do within the first 30 days. The timing of the whole thing looks terrible for Donald. But to consider replacing him with a 75 year old retired Democrat who endorsed Hillary? WTF?

Obviously cut short, lol.

No, but the position appointment is set at 10 years (to avoid another never leaving Hoover). Can still be dismissed or can quit prior to that 10 years. Just like SCOTUS appointment is lifetime, but Justices can leave (and I imagine a breech of ethics eoukd result in rarly removal).

I'm pretty certain that's not the way that Trump thinks.
