Do the americans prefer first ladies to be involved in politics so they can bitch about them? I find it very odd that this is just such a big deal over there.

MOST Democrat women HATE Melania Trump because her elbow is more attractive than they've ever been, more than because she's married to Donald Trump. (IMO of course)

Melania seems like a very lovely woman, as is Michelle Obama.

I see no purpose in disrespecting either of them solely based on political ideology.

They are/were in very difficult positions.

Pointing out differences is not disrespectful.

Michelle seems like she is in a constant pissed mood. So far I have yet so see a reason to complain about Melania, but I am watching.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I was not necessarily addressing that comment to you. Others in this thread have been disrespectful and it's based on partisan politics.

Michelle seems like she is in a constant pissed mood.

That is your opinion. There have been times that Michelle has come off as aggressive or assertive, which is to be expected with a strong, opinionated woman, but constantly pissed?

Na. That's hyperbole.

So far I have yet so see a reason to complain about Melania, but I am watching.

Perhaps that's part of the problem. You look for reasons to complain. Look long enough, you will find it. Whether you will actually complain about it depends on your political lean...and your honesty.

Me, I'd rather let them do their thing and respect the contributions they try to make while they are in such a crap position.

Porn Star First Lady. Really? You better get off your high horse quick. Resulting to slutshaming is not a good counter argument. What about her body her choice? That's just pathetic sorry.

LOL. It's a documented fact that Melania Trump worked in porn. You can find her nudes and girl on girl stuff online. Don't ask me for links. She's hardly a role model for girls and young women.

I don't even want to get started on her complicity in her husband's war on the 1st Amendment and his agenda against women's equality, access to health care and reproductive rights.

What you are trying is a liberal tactic

Don't give me that BS!

You put your thread, asking for members to compare Michelle Obama and Melainia Trump, in the MUD PIT!

You called Michelle Obama an "animal", and Melania Trump a "lady" in you OP!

I see right through you and your feeble attempt to couch your baiting and racist insults "in a good way"! Michelle Obama was not and is not a politician. She's an extremely educated and well spoken activist.

Melania Trump is not qualified for anything other than "escorting" dignitaries about and posing for pictures.

Black culture is referring to religious and political beliefs and history of African American in America I think for the most part.

You are at best being disingenuous and you know it.

Stop making excuses for thug culture.

Her observation here is that while Blacks at Princeton may not have been absorbed into other aspects of the White culture, they are familiar with (and in a sense part of) a White intellectual culture -- and that they may be less interested in benefiting the Black community

Hmm, I wonder why?

Thug life isn't very prosperous long term.

Read the paper if you want to find out. It's research on the opinions of Black graduates of the most prestigious school in America. She discusses it at length.

And it has nothing to do with "thug life."

Michelle Obama, like her husband, constantly pointed out white/black differences every opportunity they had.

Michelle made so many racially divisive comments and complaints that many Americans eventually just turned her off.

She was not physically attractive so when added to her constant angry scowling attitude she attracted negative comments-no one wants to see that, especially in our first lady. She was not well liked or likable.

Melania has a checkered past, is a 3rd trophy wife and not an American, despite her legal standing. She is elegant, demure and quiet and American women, especially politically active women, hate that.

The two are very, very different and to compare them, like their husbands, is ludicrous. Depends on who you are and your own personal politics. I doubt either one cares about public opinion-difference is, Michelle was just louder.

Very different women? Oh yes.

Michelle Obama was a very active, engaged, and independent FLOTUS who was respected and loved by her husband. Some people loved her, some hated her. But distinct? Yes. I liked her. In fact, with the exception of Hillary Clinton, I've actually liked all FLOTUS of presidents in my own living memory, from Nancy Reagan, Barbra Bush, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama. Some of them, like Nancy Reagan, pursued and supported causes I am either against or at odds with. Yet I still respected her personal dedication and devotion to her causes and her husband. Hillary Clinton is the only FLOTUS I couldn't stand, for obvious reasons, mainly, her own active co-conspirator in the majority of her husband's B.S. and trail of corruption.

Melania, like her husband, are a whole new ball game. For starters, their marriage feels stilted, Melania is mostly a Trump trophy. She isn't much of a public person, and doesn't seem to like to be around her husband much. She doesn't seem interested in being FLOTUS, either. And introducing her to the country by flogging her Jewelry on the White House website wasn't exactly endearing, either. I admire her dedication to her son and being a mother. That shouldn't however, prevent her from being an active FLOTUS. Jackie Kennedy, Hilary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama all had underage children during their time as FLOTUS, yet managed to do so and become active in their role as First Lady. Supposedly, she's waiting until Barron finishes his school year before relocating to D.C. We shall see.

In all fairness to Melania she did not sign up for this and should really be left alone. When she married her husband he said he had no political aspirations. She has a young son and wants nothing to do with politics. By contrast, Michelle is the standard issue political-wife who has been at the arm of a career politician...for good or ill.

While she is not a figure that deserves much sympathy, Melania is a beautiful woman of privilege after all, she has shown that she would rather be left out of all the political madness. Melania would rather stay in New York in relative peace. She is a Slovakian immigrant beauty who married an old white rich dude. She has a young son that she would like to raise in private (Uber rich Manhattan Private, but her version of private none-the-less)

Of all the issues facing the nation right now, the Trophy Wife of the POTUS doesn't even register for me.

Lady Bird Johnson

en.wikipedia.org...

Lady Bird created the modern structure of the First Lady's office: she was the first in this role to have a press secretary and chief of staff of her own, and an outside liaison with Congress

Lady Bird's tenure as First Lady marked the beginning of the hiring of employees in the East Wing to work specifically on the First Lady's projects

During the 1964 election, Lady Bird traveled through eight Southern states in her own train to promote the Civil Rights Act,[31] at one point giving 45 speeches over five days.[27] It was the first solo whistlestop tour by a First Lady

that woman should have stayed home where she belongs just like Melania is huh?

what a joke. basically since her first ladies have always been active and Michelle did not create policy

Melania is the 1st first lady that i know of since lady bird that has not done anything...at least so far

One is a dangerous racist lawyer disguised as a female who hates white people, the other is a hot mother I'd like to filibuster.

Also all 1st ladies should be banned for life from public service otherwise they simply won't go away, 2016 being case-in-point.

Who the F are you to insist someone MUST LIKE OR GET USED TO being in the spotlights. A nobody, that's right.
Half the population, me included are terrified of having all eyes on us so to speak and it's a character trait almost impossible to change.

The same goes to all of you calling Michelle Obama ugly and other awful names. You do not judge people on their looks and those of you who do are ugly on the inside. And there's no plastic surgery for that.

So those were Barack Obama's lunch rules that were forced on the nation's schools?

Nope.

Those were her's and that was the first time a first lady created policy rather than just advocate.
