It amazes me that people believe what they are told by the media, that's no whale or squid, that's obvious.

That's what they want people to believe and they believe it

What amazes me is that even when told what it is and given other pics as a reference, people still believe other wise.

There is a great picture on page one by Ridhya of something found in Egypt in the 50s, it's not a whale
If you want to believe it's a whale, that's fine.
I don't think it is no matter how much you want to make me accept what you want me to

It has tusks, it's not a whale to me.

The tusks were spoke of in posts. they are the bottom jaw bone of the whale.

If you think,so, I See tusks, not bones
I am going with something other than a whale, because it's made international news, dead whales don't make international news...obviously

The simplest answer is normally the correct one.

While scientists can say for sure that the whale belongs to the genus Balaenoptera, it's not clear exactly which species it is: It could be either a blue whale or a Bryde's whale, Werth said.

These mystery carcasses show up all the time, and in this case as well as most others, it is indeed a whale. Whales, particularly rorquals, have a two-piece mandible structure (as seen upthread) that can look very weird if you're not familiar with them. And the "fur" is actually a well-recorded oddity in decaying whale skin. As the skin rots, collagen fibres separate from the base layer and take on an appearance not unlike hair.

The last sentence of your quote is expanded in the image captions:

"The carcass is actually a whale, which took on an alien-like appearance thanks to decomposition. There was speculation the creature had been killed by a recent earthquake, but officials on Thursday said the whale was probably struck by a ship"

So, a whale, I guess. The squid thing seems to be speculation from the locals and also a fire chief referring to a similar find in Mexico last year.

Yeah, an update did say whale for this one, too. Still looks more like a squid, around the head, but in that condition, you have to go with DNA evidence!! I don't even want to imagine how it had to smell.

Maybe? Not exactly like the pics of that, either, but possible. Cool, either way.

Yea we're definitely looking at some kind of baleen whale.

Animals look so odd when they're decomposing. Some things fall off. Some things become more pronounced. Bloat occurs. Teeth come out. It's wild.
