So popularity was only important when the ACA was unpopular but now that it is swinging in the other direction its suddenly "the rally call of the ignorant and apathetic"?

No--I was pretty specific in explaining that it's the ignorance and apathy of the average American that makes popularity that rally cry.

Anyone, no matter if for or against something, who does so without a decent understanding of that which they're excited for or passionately against is one of those ignorant or apathetic.

If that happened, it would be a disaster FAR greater than anything we've seen before. No matter how much you hate the ACA, there is no going back to the days before it existed. The markets are too different now.

The markets were different before it was implemented, and at one point in our history, health insurance wasn't even a thing.

We can adapt--the BS argument that "there is no going back" is a logical fallacy. Where there IS no going back is for people who pay dramatically more than they used to, or my parents, who both lost their doctor (that they've had for DECADES) because of the implementation of the PPACA (remember that whole keep-your-doctors lie?), or for the janitor that works in my building who on longer can afford coverage, and it's easier to just pay the tax (although he could afford coverage before the PPACA).

Stop kidding yourself (or trying to convince me...whichever you're doing) that it is better now than what it used to be. In both systems (pre- and post-PPACA), there were people for whom it worked and for whom it did not, but before the PPACA, premium rises were much lower per year than since, and people had more choices of health-insurance providers and which doctors they could see (because one affects the other).

When you pretend that it's all the "Republican states'" faults and that it's utopia in all of the blue states, it really undermines your argument and credibility.

But I'm not trying to convince you of anything, because I know you already hold your beliefs, and you certainly won't convince me that popularity polls aren't juvenile in both why they exist and concerning the intelligence that the average person polled has on the topic.

How's this for popularity:

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that in terms of reforming health care, 62% of Likely U.S. Voters feel it is more important to reduce the cost of care. That’s up from a previous high of 59% in January of last year. Thirty-four percent (34%) still place more importance on making sure that everyone has health insurance, but that’s a new low.

Thirty-six percent (36%) continue to believe, however, that the government should require every American to buy or obtain health insurance. Fifty percent (50%) oppose Obamacare’s health insurance mandate, while 14% are undecided.

Rasmussen, dated 10 Mar 2017.

Half of the nation, as of less that two months ago, oppose the PPACA insurance mandate (which is the ONLY way that it can even pretend to pay for all of the pre-existing-condition patients that it also mandates are covered). Only slightly better than 1/3 believe the mandate should continue.

Or there's this one, from RealClearPolitics, that the vast historical data on the popularity of this law has been overwhelmingly negative. You can't try to erase the unpopularity of the PPACA that has existed since Nov. 2009 through Jan. 2017 just because it suits you. People have disliked this law consistently, and I guarantee you that the last 4.5 months of change of heart (with a current gap of just 6.6%) is more based on fear that ANY in-depth knowledge of either the PPACA or AHCA.

But, you know...popularity matters.

So what is your idea to save this failing legislature that is Obamacare, Mr. Obama?

He isn't President anymore so kind of a stupid question huh?

You had 8 years to make something great, instead, you made something that was functional, into a time bomb that can't help but explode.

Lie much? Most of his presidency was blocked by congress which was held by the Republicans.

Before this garbage was passed, there were a small percentage of people who had trouble getting coverage.

Millions are a small percentage? Also ever hear of something called a preexisting condition? Before the ACA good luck in getting coverage if you had one.

In conclusion, you aren't president anymore, and we really, really don't care what you think at this point. Go give some $400K speeches and slither off somewhere.

You really should stop lying to yourself if you didn't care then you wouldn't have made the thread whining about him.

Nope...not President anymore...just left us with a massive fail of a healthcare system consistently rising in costs until it it could be called Unaffordable Healthcare, except for illegals and those on government handouts....

Blocked by Congress? You mean like the Dems are consistently doing now....you can't say what you said in your first response and then say this too....kinda hypocritical methinks.

Yes...millions ARE a small percentage. Even 3 million would be just 1%.

And yes, you could get coverage with pre existing condistions.....it was a high cost, but you could get it. So now instead of you with the pre existing condition paying for it, I am. I pay the equivalent of a married couple extra insurance premium just in the amount my insurance went up....now that is ridiculous.

Fail is what he did and even the video I posted at the bottom of the last page...you know, the one with one of the master creators of the plan where he says you can't be transparent if you want to pass the bill and have to rely on the stupidity of voters to think it's a good plan.....remember that one...yeah....the guy that was a major advisor to Obama care? From the horses mouth....

Funny thing about this guy, a major archit3ct and advisor for Obamacare....he was fired from the Massachusetts Healthcare reform board and his plan in Vermont was cancelled because costs were getting to high.....

Yet he is still an economics professor at freaking MIT....WTf???

Obamacare started "failing" long before Donald Trump even announced his candidacy. Ironically, the failures began with the Government funded Co-ops (Consumer Oriented and Operated Plans). They were set up in 23 states to appease liberal Democrats who wanted a "Government Option" built into the Affordable Care Act. They started exploding almost immediately after going into business.

I wonder how much of that 10 trillion debt that Obama accumulated was used to pay obamacare subsidies?

if the government had the authority to force people to buy insurance then they certainly had the authority to make a law that uninsured people could only be billed on the their ability to pay. The less money you have the less your bill would be,but of course congress couldn`t do that because that would make all the healthcare lobbyists mad and that would cut down on their bribery payments.

Actually, a good number of people have $700 @ month health insurance premiums, but pay $0, and have a $0 deductible. The Government pays 100% of everything. Those are folks who live in non-Medicaid expansion states, who earn a hair over $11,000 a year.

Obamacare implosion

By now everyone knows that Obamacare is officially the public policy flop of this generation. With the latest news of premium increases of 22 percent, insurance companies dropping out, dwindling competition, and rising costs to taxpayers, this is truly the Hindenburg of health plans. But there is another part of the story that needs to be told. This wasn’t just a liberal screw up, it was a financial swindle of taxpayers. President Obama’s team and the liberal echo chamber lied about Obamacare from the start and covered up the financial time bomb that would soon detonate in Americans’ laps. These were like Enron officials cooking the books to cover up financial fraud — except in the case of Obamacare, no one ends up in jail.

You can quote all the garbage you want, but those with brains can clearly see the cost now as opposed to before this cluster#. It does amuse me that folks like you would pay twice the price just to have a nice soft spot of Obama's ass for your lips.

Perfectly said, and it fits all Obama acolytes who would give up both kidneys for an Obama style cause without regard for the consequences, the same way he would destroy a majority just to help a small minority, while paying out billions to friends and accomplices along the sidelines.

Most importantly regarding ObamaCare polls, the vast majority of people polled DO NOT have an ObamaCare health policy. All they have is an opinion, based on what the Mainstream Media tells them to think. Unless a person is directly affected by ObamaCare (good or bad), their opinion is of limited value. VERY limited.

BOSTON (AP) -- Former President Barack Obama, in his first public comments about the ongoing debate over his signature health care plan, implored members of Congress on Sunday to demonstrate political courage even if it goes against their party's positions. Obama briefly returned to the spotlight as he accepted the annual John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award at JFK's presidential library in Boston. The award is named for a 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Kennedy that profiled eight U.S. senators who risked their careers by taking principled though unpopular positions.

So what is your idea to save this failing legislature that is Obamacare, Mr. Obama? You had 8 years to make something great, instead, you made something that was functional, into a time bomb that can't help but explode.

Before this garbage was passed, there were a small percentage of people who had trouble getting coverage. Rather than coming up with a way to help those people, he decided to screw the rest of the population to help that small group. And in doing so, he didn't have the vision to see that it won't work. (see Mr. Obama, this is kind of complicated)

It's nice that you get awards like this and that Nobel Peach prize for being ........well, from what I can see, it was just FOR BEING. In conclusion, you aren't president anymore, and we really, really don't care what you think at this point. Go give some $400K speeches and slither off somewhere.

So, fake news does really exists!

Aww , come on now folks , think . It was designed by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi . Passeed by the Senate , but felt it would not get by the House, Therefore , Pelose held the Reps hostage on A Saturday night stating they couldnt leave till it passed (also stated they would have to passit before we could see what was in it) . For like a year it was postponed due to issues with the website. Obama signed it in to law ( no , he had absolutely nothing to do with it other than the signing ). So given above , and the signing into the Law of the Land by the messiah , how the Hades could it be bad ?
