Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me was The Cure's 7th album, released exactly 30 years ago this very month (I was a wee lass, age 7.. hard to believe lol). It was an international success and the album reached the Billboard Top 40 and went Platinum.

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is an atmospheric masterpiece, thematically consistent, and combs the depths of human emotion. It drags us down into the fiery pit, lifts us up into the arms of the angels, and explores the agony and ecstacy of human relations.
Here's one my favorites from the album:

I might add on this album is a poem of Baudelaire's that Robert Smith transcribed into one of the most crushing songs ever written (although one might never know unless they paid careful mind to the lyrics- the tone and the title suggest otherwise.)
Here's a link to the poem:

Here's the song, and I'll print the lyrics after he video

You want to know why I hate you?
Well I'll try and explain...
You remember that day in Paris
When we wandered through the rain
And promised to each other
That we'd always think the same
And dreamed that dream
To be two souls as one
And stopped just as the sun set
And waited for the night
Outside a glittering building
Of glittering glass and burning light...

And in the road before us
Stood a weary greyish man
Who held a child upon his back
A small boy by the hand
The three of them were dressed in rags
And thinner than the air
And all six eyes stared fixedly on you

The father's eyes said "Beautiful!
How beautiful you are!"
The boy's eyes said
"How beautiful!
She shimmers like a star!"
The childs eyes uttered nothing
But a mute and utter joy
And filled my heart with shame for us
At the way we are

I turned to look at you
To read my thoughts upon your face
And gazed so deep into your eyes
So beautiful and strange
Until you spoke
And showed me understanding is a dream
"I hate these people staring
Make them go away from me!"

The fathers eyes said "Beautiful!
How beautiful you are!"
The boys eyes said
"How beautiful! She glitters like a star!"
The child's eyes uttered joy
And stilled my heart with sadness
For the way we are

And this is why I hate you
And how I understand
That no-one ever knows or loves another

Or loves another

I'll link the entire album here (playlist so I can't embed). Enjoy listening! Do you agree that it stands the test of time?

Agree this is a great album from start to finish. To your tracks, I'd list my favorites which are "The Kiss" and "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep".

Although this is probably only my 3rd or 4th favorite Cure album (haha album, I just dated myself), this one may have been the best blend of dark, textured gloom with light, happy pop, which makes The Cure so unique, imo.

I found it quite interesting that "Catch" from "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" was inspired by a scene from ROCKY 2.

Great comment about the mix of light and dark on this album. I totally agree.

The Cure is my favorite band of all time. I have every album and have seen them live many times. I can't pick a favorite album, but my favorite song on Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is... wait for it... "The Kiss". Great thread and cheers to all fellow Cure fans on ATS.

Well then let's just post that one here for you!
I think that this song grabs you from the first note.. shakes you up a bit.. gets in your face..intense way to begin an album! lol.

I've never seen them live. I'm sure it is an incredible experience. Thanks for stopping in

Yep.
Disintegration was the peak. Don't get me wrong, they did awesome tracks before and after, but I just have a special place for this album.

I'm thinking maybe I should make a Jesus and Mary Chain thread now...

I agree that Disintegration is a masterpiece. Funny you talked about the "special place" which is exactly what I have for the album in OP.

Why Can't I be You

30 years... I guess it has been that long! It was a double album and there was a track left off the CD so it could fit on the disc. Track, "Hey You!!" was left off until the remastered version came out.

I began to like this one after a while. I think because it breaks up some of the slower songs. The driving guitar riff is great!

Again, this is one of those, "Put the whole thing on and listen to it from beginning to end," albums. If you ever get the chance watch the live disc Trilogy where they play back-to-back-to-back: Pornography; Disintegration; Bloodflowers you get "bonus" material as they have a bunch of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me songs on there too!
