God damn conservatives - Are you seriously THIS HELL BENT on not allowing our nation to progress at all?

Talks of Universal Healthcare - And all you can do is complain about how we're not communistic North Korea and other jack-ass arguments that hold no water?

Many European/Nordic countries, along with some others like Australia, New Zealand have....

Less crime
Less pollution/More use of renewable sources
Less inequality
Higher education standards/testing - Cheaper/free education for universities
Higher reported levels of happiness
Lower mortality rates
AND MORE

Yet you're god damned American dream of becoming a corrupt Monopolistic billionaire life-sucking company like big-pharma corporations or Monsanto or the like make you reject any idea other than your capitalistic nightmare?

I don't understand, not even a tiny bit.

You talk about freedom, and the american dream, and justice - Yet you don't care if capitalism means child slaves brought you your goods. You don't give a damn if even basic essential life-giving care at a hospital is given to a person - What about their freedom? What about homeless children, people diagnosed with cancer, or those otherwise unable to provide for themselves at no fault of their own?

But it's survival of the fittest, is it not? Make your own damn money, don't take mine - I'll give mine to corrupt corporations that sell things at 3000% mark-ups after using child labor...

Those too weak should fail anyways, right? Perhaps even die if they don't have the money to pay their bills...?

Welcome to Facism, assholes.

It's not the left that's demanding a more elite and pristine society.

It's the right.

When the Government boot is on your neck it makes no difference if it is a left boot or a right. I hate all Federal Government interference. I know you are saying you like some of this interference, but I don't want to be forced to participate in some universal health care scam just because you think I should.

Universal health care is bad for people like me because I will have to go stand in a damn line and get sub-standard care from a cut rate physician when I would rather just pay for services rendered and keep the Government out of my transaction.

You went from "happier than ever" to "I'm so # angry" really quick.

Im not even conservative, I'm a liberal and your assertion towards the end of your rant about facism, is imo incorrect.

Is this really how people think it will be?

I've met quite a few people from Canada, and the major complaint is that they only treat urgent things - they don't really diagnose, prevent, etc at all costs.

They say the quality of care is fine, just that they go private if they want to get ahead of something the system doesn't cover.

What's so bad about that?

Regardless, if we want to talk about less government interfering with our lives... We have to talk seriously about impeachment of every political figure that's in there, and complete restructure of our political process, and corporate involvement or rather removing their involvement...

Unfortunately I honestly don't see things going libertarian, as much as I would enjoy it - it's just not happening. So I want to work with what we have.

Still happier than ever

I have a beautiful daughter and wife who are happy and healthy, who I am doing my best to provide for and succeeding.

I have my own health - I have good friendships and all.

The rant section is a tongue in cheek... Rant.

Not a life philosophy or mantra or anything.

It seems like you don't stand in too long of line now, pay through the nose and every other orifice for substandard care. We are 30th in medical outcomes.
Columbia had better medical out comes than the US.

And if you use medical insurance, there is a little secret you may or may not know. It is privatized socialism.

And some one (maybe you and I ) are making money off this medical system while millions of people are struggling to pay the premiums... Yes great system.

Do you think the system is working?

1000$ a month premium for family of 4+copays+medications+personal deductibles+family deductibles+80/20 splits.

What will happen is the cost will get to a point when people will think-I may need medical insurance, but I do need food, I do need a home, I do need heat......

It is going to crash, this has happened because there is no limits and the inmates are running the asylum. Some sanity introduced into the system will bring stability.

??

Other countries literally have higher levels of subjective happiness than us...

It doesn't have to be this way.

It's just the way we choose ( or are manipulated to think we have chosen )

No, the system is not "working". But what's needed is not more healthcare lobbyist influenced laws.

There will be a healthcare crash, and I think it'll be a good thing.

- Healthcare is NOT a right, ACCESS to healthcare is.
- No tax penalties for not having health insurance.
- Let insurers compete across state lines.
- Quit requiring all insurers to cover certain things. Let the consumer pay for what they need.
- If you have a pre-existing condition, are obese, smoke, drink, etc... You pay more. Basic logic.

If I had the option, I would opt for catastrophic coverage only, and negotiate the rest for cash with the doctor out of pocket.

When a 3rd party is actually paying, the costs skyrocket, since I'm not in the mix demanding to know why I'm paying $12 a tablet for aspirin.

I guess there are people who refuse to see what is directly in their face.

The system is broken, and I'm beginning to get the feeling that the can is gong to kicked down the road by Trump.

I don't like change-but there is an obvious problem here.

Our country is not handling this portion of our economy right. Let's look around the globe and see what works better.

I'm plenty happy, and government isn't involved in any way.

In fact, most sources of my "unhappiness" involve government.

Governments are only useful for getting in a man's way.

Except in every other country on earth. (the US has the most expensive) There are third party payment systems that do it cheaper and better. The US is #1 in cost and 30 something in health outcomes.

Hint hint, the insurance companies in the U.S. are a 3rd party.

If people would incur the costs themselves and then demand to know why things cost what they do, costs would go down.

Out of sight, out of mind. I just pay the premium and rely on my insurer to negotiate the costs.

I don't know who you are listening to about this, but if you ask most people from Canada or the UK or any other country about this, they will tell you that they have good physicians and that they do not have to wait in a line. Some appointments take a long time, but try scheduling an appointment with a specialist here, sometimes you have to wait a month or even longer to get in. You really need to speak directly to the people from other countries before parroting lies that are being spread by those who profit from our system here.

I know three good doctors, all three I talked to about socialized medicine and all three here said they would much rather collect a salary and work with socialized medicine. Now these are nice doctors, they have to help support the other healthcare departments so have to send people for tests, some unneeded. There are a few doctors who like to be rich and will dislike this, they want to be richer than rich.

A doctor around here working their tail off usually makes about three hundred grand a year of which they have insurance espenses, less if they are employed by the hospitals who supply their office and pay for their insurances. If you go to California, many doctors make well over a million bucks a year, some even make up to three million.

Yes, these overpaid doctors are not going to like socialized medicine.

I currently live in Japan , there are no lines to stand in so to speak, there is a seating area not unlike a bank, you get your number and then you get served this is for visits for lets say you have a headache, you are about to drop dead, you go straight into surgery , this image of crawling over sick people clogging up the hallways is a scare tactic myth.

But the best of it all is you are not broke after an operation or have to choose between feeding your kids or buy medication.

Canadian here, when I got my kidney stones, no waiting, rushed right in and treatment started, same with when I was having heart palpitations, my father who had cancer was in surgery within 2 weeks and treatments started immediately after, I don't know where your getting this wait in line info from, when you go to the hospital you're go through triage to determine the severity of your situation, if you're there with the sniffles then yup you're gonna wait while they treat more serious patients, my family doctor can see me in one to two days sometimes I'll call in the am and get an appointment that afternoon, my Parkinson's took the longest at 2 months to see a neurologist, All payed for by my "communist healthcare"
