Being escorted out doesn't mean arrested. She was disruptive. Sorry, not allowed.

A woman began laughing during Jeff Sessions' Senate confirmation hearing. She may now be sentenced to a year in prison.
Even though she was there in protest and causing a disruption, facing jail time for this is insane.
I'm so glad that I don't live in america, good luck to you all.

Land of the free my arse.
Not at all. I am wondering in what logical and reasonable society she deserves to face one year in jail. Her arrest is no mystery even though the public disturbance would have been far more minimal if she wasn't escorted out.

For laughing? It looks like she did a lot more than that.
Yes, again I say she did nothing but make a tiny sound until they began dragging her out.
Sooo, her actions caused a disruption of legal proceedings?
Pretty sure thats, uhhh....illegal.
From the looks of the three videos I've seen of the incident, the legal proceeding hadn't been disrupted until they started dragging her off. So until they disrupted the legal proceeding to arrest her, she wasn't disrupting anything.

I'm guessing that it has more to do with the fact that she had already drawn attention to herself by being there solely for protesting.
Whatever the reason, it was enough for a jury to convict.
Probably had something to do with intent.
I suppose she should have left quietly.

You and I may be the only two people who understand that within the confines of this thread.
Not really, some people love to be behind any law when it suits. The only problem I have is that nobody present laughed when Trump was sworn in. I did it at home, presumably I might get arrested if I ever go to the states though.

She was protesting. Protest: a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.
Weather or not is was disruptive doesn't detract from the action of protest. By the very nature of many protests they are disruptive. Civil disobedience, for example. If you have to get a permit to protest, it's no longer a protest.

I just want to clarify that I don't necessarily think she was in the right to cause a disruption, or that she should go without any kind of retribution for her actions, it's the idea of a prison sentence specifically that I find so bewildering.
Yes I might get crap for saying this but ...meh
I could see a few days in jail for this but a year in prison seems a bit excessive for this.

She was being deliberately disruptive, and deserves what she gets. One cannot simply behave badly like that, at such an event, with no consequences. What she did is not lawful protest.

You seem to be forgetting that laws dont apply to people on the left. Its like the book Animal Farm - Everyone is created equally, but some are more equal than others.
If people on the right behaved in the same manner as Maxine Waters is doing the term racist would be used every other word by the left.
How Trump refusing to accept the outcome of the election is dangerous to our "democracy" (Republic) while its not dangerous to it when Clinton throws a temper tantrum is further proof of how out of touch Democrats have become. They have become the part of Elites and yet somehow cant figure out why they keep losing elections.
it's somehow acceptable for that woman and her pals to break the law,
