It also was against FCC rules pertaining to broadcast television. Thus, he and the network should be fined. That is what we should be demanding.

Can you post those rules?

Pretty ironic to talk about censorship on a site where you can't write curse words like f#ck or sh!t without censoring yourself.

Do you pay to participate on this site? Do you subscribe to ATS?

This is a privately owned, publicly available, venue. The owners have rules that allow them to maintain the environment THEY have determined is appropriate.

"See"?? "Understand"? "Get it"?

If you want to talk trash, use filthy language and imagery, subscribe to a forum where you can do that?

Understand? I doubt it.

Give it a rest. The Late Show is #1 in ratings, and this wasn't some prime time airing where kids would be gathered around the TV with the family.

It was censored "adult" humor, at an adult hour.

The late show is #1 because television is going down the tubes. Not because Late Show is that good.

I give it a 4/5 tho.

Fire him......funny
Like they fired Don Imus and like a year later back on air more popular than ever.
Like sheen got fired for the chuck lorrie comment only to get another successful show.

Actually I hope he gets fired and in a year comes back stronger and more lewd.

This is all pretty funny. Colbert is free to make himself look like a clown in live TV anytime he wants.

Oh, I know, to think that I used to watch his show all the time, even waited or recorded for later viewing.

One thing is funny jokes, darn I enjoy a double meaning joke anytime, the other is tasteless jokes, those are no funny.

So you can mention the rules and mentioned he broke them but won't post them?

The hashtag #firecolbert went huge after Monday night's show and a website firecolbert.com was created. It was a joke, but a pretty harsh one, that sparked all this outrage from trump supporters(which is some hypocritical # but w/e) and no doubt some SJW people(that that is a thing now is just terrible, people being outraged on others behalf without knowing their point of view)

If firing him ended his deadend career at lateshow, I'm for it. Stephan is #ing funny, but it's diluted in the writing of that show in particular compared to his other work.

Perhaps it's just my experience with german comedians but Colbert was pretty tame in contrast to our german comedians in the 90s. Why is this such a big deal? Is it an american thing?

It's a big deal because, while it would be okay on cable where people subscribe to view programs, or on a live stage where people pay to be "entertained", etc., we have civilized rules regarding obscenity profanity, and lewdness on broadcast TV. We still have some scruples and a tad left of a moral compass.

Okay thank you very much for the clarification. We have rules to air such shows after a specific time (usualy at 11 pm)and that's probably why nobody cares. Well our TV program shows boobs at 12 am so every country has there own strange priorities i guess. Though i quit watching regular TV long ago because it all went downhill after the 2k area. The scripted reality show bs ruined it all in my honest opinion. Z promis are a real plague here.

I think it's time I write a book and call it .... 'How to Grow a Back Bone' I will focus on today's generation and provide proof that being too sensitive really isn't that cool.

Ratings don't even mean anything, you don't know what you're talking about. Commercials are sold by person, and ratings are like a honor system compared to actual things that matter like cast impressions. The late show isnt #1 in making money- anyway. Compare this to how things worked a century ago and sure, ratings used to matter.

The trolls who started the hashtag are likely not actually outraged at the statement, but the double standards held by the liberal media, Colbert included. We already know that calling Rosie ODonnel a pig is an attack on women, that calling illegals rapists, drug dealers, and the like is an attack on Mexicans and immigrants, and that talking about Islamic terrorism is an attack on Muslims. So why wouldn't we hold other public figures, especially those who condemn such speech, to the same standards they themselves hold to others?

He has a right to say what he thinks. That First Amendment is sacrosanct.

But...broadcast TV is not the place to do it. The FCC has obscenity rules for profanity, indecency, and obscenity. He stepped over the line. I guess he forgot he wasn't on Comedy Central anymore.

He should be fined and/or the network should be fined. It has nothing to do with free speech rights. Let him spout his opinions and drivel on a live comedy stage or cable.....not broadcast TV.

Those same regulations you're talking about also say that after 10 p.m. the rules are loosened substantially and the FCC evaluates a whole hell of a lot more than simply "was a word used or not used" when they get a complaint. Between 10 pm and 6 am a TV station can broadcast, and say, just about any damn thing they want short of porn.

The simple fact that he comes on at 11:35 makes the FCC angle everybody is trying to latch on to a non-starter. The FCC may give him a finger-wagging, but they sure as hell aren't going to come down hard on him.

Shoulda read the entire page about those regulations.

Given long enough, every comedian will eventually cross someone's personal "line" with a joke. Judging an entire career over that line being occasionally crossed is silly.

Some found this particular comment tasteless, others found it funny. That's the way comedy goes.

Yeah. Ratings don't measure a shows success.
Ratings don't factor in to how much a network charges for ad space.
