My all time favorite.

Metalhead with a sense of Humor.

Outdated and/or forgotten.

I feel so alone.

Hi zosi.

I don't think I'll ever trust a self driving car. Atleast not yet.

By the way, that's the one (avatar)

The two fingered "peace" symbol, which used to represent "victory" now represents "only two genders".

I guess it's not exactly obsolete, but it's ever changing.

Wait what? Peace symbol is now about gender??

Man have I been out of the loop!

Hi hunter!
I do not like the prospect either, and will hold out as long as I can (until human drivers are deemed hazardous due to unpredictability).

Or perhaps that will never happen.. who knows?

Here's a bit of Shakespeare with an obsolete gesture

"I will bite my thumb at them"

Don't think it would hold up in a schoolyard brawl these days.

aww got beat to the thumb bite. shucks (snap in the air gesture)

In defense of the window rolling down gesture:

If you pull up next to me, hooking your index finger (modern push button windows) I am not going to have a clue what you are telling me.
But my mind will go to the gutter, and I will probably give you a gesture that I hope never goes obsolete.

And my brain even read the thread title as Obscene. LOL

I don't think it's necessarily obsolete yet, but the thumb and pinky finger "phone" hand gesture don't seem to get used as much.

I think this is still used to some degree. What isn't used as often is the variant... turning the phone symbol over to tell someone to "hang up". Since you don't really 'hang up' phones anymore.

Finger across the throat doesn't translate well across the universe.

Aside from phone booths.

Another good one.

Twisting your finger around your ear when someone is being screwy/crazy/cuckoo.

The motion of "opening a container with a bottle/can opener"?
Today, most bottles are twist offs, and most cans have a built-in pop-top that stays attached to the can.

ETA: Referring to one of these for those too young to remember.

Using your index and middle finger to make a 'walking' gesture.

Like, what loser doesn't have a chauffer these days?

I got kicked out of Waffle House for that one.

I hear ya.
I got kicked out of the library for using the old 'Waxing the Buggy Whip' hand gesture to the librarian.

I grew up in Southern California so this might have been proprietary to that part of the country, but I haven't seen the self head pat for doing something awesome since I was a kid.

Making a fist with extended pinky, and/or gesturing with a limp wrist used to be a sign for "gay."

I would assume it's not politically correct anymore though

The wave.
People used to wave at each other as a sign of greetings. Even people who didn't know each other would be courteous and do this.
But this was a long time ago, before the world lost its mind.

The wave goes with tipping of the hat, it's just no done much any more north of Kentucky. In the South we still throw a hand up even in traffic.
