I haven't watched anyone at late night since some very early Letterman, before he went off the deep end.

Sometimes, you end up getting an early commute time, so staying up late to watch TV isn't a good idea, and besides, I usually use those last few minutes to read.

Agree with OP that comedians get a pass when ctritcizing public figures, I DO NOT agree that the level of vulgarity he used on "network" television is acceptable. Cable, sure, go for it...people expect that language, naked folks, "sexual content"...oh, and get a warning before the show starts and when back from commercial (if there are any). This was over the top, completely inappropriate, and if he doesn't go, he needs a "vacation".

Well, then we almost have two arguments here don't we?

1. Was the term Colbert used appropriate for his venue (late-night network TV) and should he be reprimanded for using it?

2. Was Colbert's criticism of the president out of bounds and over the top, going too far?

IMO 1. Inappropriate for network television (and sometimes these shows/monologues get repeated in prime time).

IMO 2. While I would prefer these comediams be apolitical, it is obvious they are all in the tank for the left...but I don't find this near as offensive as Madonna stating she wanted to blow up the white house (without penalty). I used to love SNL when skits involved both sides. Once it went complete anti-Republican, pro hard Left, I haven't watched since. But as long as they keep it PG-13 on network television, say what they will. If cable, like Maher's show, this would have been fine by me...and is pretty tame for some of the stupid @$%& said on Maher's show. Of course those slamming their President shouldn't be allowed to cry and melt when he defends himself on Twitter and hurts their feelings!

So you CAN'T say the 'C' word for vagina..
...But you CAN say the 'C' word for penis?

Sounds a bit sexist.

Wait, I can't say 'cootchie'?
I was wondering if it was "cooter."

I hear ya. Letterman was great though right to the end. I never watch TV when it airs. Streamed on demand.

Apparently both CBS and Colbert share your sentiment. Colbert said he'd do it again, using different words.

Not because of Trump, but because of right wingers calling it a homophobic slur.

ETA - oh, and he did so in his monologue. On his show.

In this political climate it's fifty/fifty odds.

So wouldn't the logical and smart thing to do is refrain from posting some partisan nonsense if you missed the entire thread ?

Did you even read the OP? Because even in the OP, nobody was offended.

Complete that so called 'logic'.

Trump insulted CBS.

CBS insulted TRUMP.

Trump earned more supporters.

Trump has a bigger audience, and they actually MATTER.

Yep. Colbert said it was over the face the nation interview.

I'd be surprised if CBS cans him. I can't imagine they want to be seen as caving to him given the current relationship with the press and White House.

Because they always have ulterior motives and are congenital liars.
