Of course, that brings us back to the overall question:

Should Colbert be reprimanded for what he said? Not necessarily because there is no time and place for his thoughts but because he may not have expressed his thought in an appropriate time and place?

Of course, we can all have our opinions on that, but the arbiters will ultimately be his bosses and the ones who decide what the standards for network TV are.

That's a different argument.

He should have the right to say whatever he wants.

But there are some that want to be able to punish people based on what they say, what they think, what they write.

That is not supporting free expression.

To be truly Uber-Orwellian, I think you'll also have to start factoring in the motivation and genuine passion behind the expression of those thoughts.

In Colbert's case, his thoughts were actually those of his comedy writers...and his motivation was ratings and publicity, rather than genuine outrage.

Ideas should be expressed, words should be said but if your words interfere with my pursuit of happiness, I have the right to react accordingly.

You can't whine about getting attention just because you don't like the manner in which the attention is given, but then turn around and keep trying to insert yourself into conversations after everybody stops paying attention to you.

Obviously someones world evolves around poor wittle old me.

I must be the center of their universe.

Every day.

Every thread.

Same old BULLCRAP.

Have nothing better to do?

Felt like you were channeling Jane Austin there for a moment.

They really don't want to talk about 'triggered'.

They lose their collective snip every time Trump tweets.

I don't think he should be fired but should apologize form making such a crude remark on Network TV...

Save that kind of humor for HBO.

His glory days were at comedy central where his thing was satire (of which he excels at) and also they allow for a lot more leeway there. less "normies" in the audience.

Stephen is now in the mainstream and lost his strength...I see it inevitably crashing and burning over time.

This!^^

Yup, up to his bosses at CBS and advertisers.

People can start boycotting if they want, turn to another station and/or write letters.

All free speech. All legal.

C-holster was funny back in the day, like the 70's. Now it's just a crude patriarchal insult.

Carson is the late night standard, btw. Haven't watched anyone since.
