That's how the flat earth thing started.

I thought that was all because of eating pancakes with bacon, instead of sugar and jam.

No, no, this is how it started;

One day when George III was insane he heard that the Americans never had afternoon tea. This made him very obstinate, and he invited them all to a compulsory tea-party at Boston; the Americans, however, started by pouring the tea into Boston Harbour and went on pouring things into Boston Harbour until they were quite Independent, thus causing the United States.

So it was about tea, not pancakes? I dunno about that.

I did hear another theory that the initial argument was "what is a biscuit?".

Us, with actual biscuits.
Americans, with not biscuits.

I believe the full story is that they were going to have tea and chips, and that's where the trouble started.

Who would have tea and chips or tea and crisps? That's just silly!

No. I reckon it was us brits trying to figure out wth grits are. I swear it's something you put on the outside of houses.

Why do I find it so difficult to understand the dialogue in a film when the actors have an English accent?

So let me see if I've got this.

You find it hard to understand people speaking English in a non American accent?

I'm like that with different languages. Different accents of my language, not so much.

How do you manage with immigrants whose first language isn't English?

Life must be very confusing for you.

Lets not get into metric versus imperial (of its many different types)

OMG, no, let's go there.
It's so archaic that only 3 countries use it: USA, Liberia, and Myanmar.

Let that sink in, and have at us. We deserve to be reminded of how slow we are to catch up

Pounds, inches, farenheit (spelling?) The most ridiculous measuring systems ever.
How do you guys cope in the science world when forced to use metric?
