Socialism is achievable in the US. And don't tell me it can't be done.

Sure, wanna be lazy, you don't deserve the fruits of MY labor. Starve or whatever other fate. Then responsible people can teach their orphans to work for what you need, not rely on those who do.

Well I'd rather force them to work or face jail time than letting them starve to death and leaving orphans behind. But that's just me I guess.

With such a strong work ethic and such little regard for human life, why would you oppose such a measure?

Government backwardsness & corruption is always the outcome in the US. And don't tell me it ain't so.

Actually do try to explain that away, it would be hysterical!

I say this as someone who supports a national single-payer healthcare system in the U.S., free college, a UBI and etc., but your examples are frankly garbage and show a bad understanding of your own source material. Syria's population has risen primarily due to the fact that its population is relatively poor and its level of development, even before the civil war, was quite low, not because of any specific policies of its ruling government. Poor countries (i.e. Syria) tend to have higher population growth, whereas rich and developed countries (i.e. the U.S., or your "native" Canada) tend to have lower population growth. This is pretty basic demography, and if anything reflects poorly on Syria's government. Furthermore, you know damn well that neither Syria nor Canada has "free" healthcare, housing, solar, etc. The costs of these goods/services are simply payed for out of taxes. This rubbish claim of things being free that aren't does nothing to support your argument, and instead appears to show that you know little if anything about the subject matter. Also, if you're from Canada, why not use that as an example instead of a failed state like Syria? Tell me, does the Russian internet propaganda brigade pay you folks a bonus for talking up the "merits" of Assad?

sure it CAN work but that does not mean we SHOULD let it, in the end socialism is unconstitutional and unamerican in many ways.

-samuel adams

Property is admitted to have an existence, even in the savage state of nature. The bow, the arrow, and the tomahawk; the hunting and the fishing ground, are species of property, as important to an American savage, as pearls, rubies, and diamonds are to the Mogul, or a Nabob in the East, or the lands, tenements, hereditaments, messuages, gold and silver to the Europeans. And if property is necessary for the support of savage life, it is by no means less so in civil society. The Utopian schemes of levelling, and a community of goods, are as visionary and impracticable, as those which vest all property in the Crown, are arbitrary, despotic, and in our government, unconstitutional. Now, what property can the colonists be conceived to have, if their money may be granted away by others, without their consent?

-benjamin franklin

Hence as all history informs us, there has been in every State & Kingdom a constant kind of warfare between the governing & governed: the one striving to obtain more for its support, and the other to pay less. And this has alone occasioned great convulsions, actual civil wars, ending either in dethroning of the Princes, or enslaving of the people. Generally indeed the ruling power carries its point, the revenues of princes constantly increasing, and we see that they are never satisfied, but always in want of more. The more the people are discontented with the oppression of taxes; the greater need the prince has of money to distribute among his partizans and pay the troops that are to suppress all resistance, and enable him to plunder at pleasure. There is scarce a king in a hundred who would not, if he could, follow the example of Pharoah, get first all the peoples money, then all their lands, and then make them and their children servants for ever.

The problem is the word "socialism". The word seems to cause some Americans to spasms of irrational hate and loathing. This is because the word means different things to different people, and nationalities.

The UK has a healthcare system that is paid for by taxation, but is free at the point of delivery to UK nationals (and it seems to health tourists, but don't get me started). People in the UK do not consider this to be socialist, they consider it to be sensible.

Could the US adopt that model? It probably cannot because of ingrained societal issues, but it should. The UK health system is half the price of the US and with better clinical outcomes. Therefore the national approach is better and cheaper than the capitalist model. Why? Well, in the US healthcare is a commodity and a money spinner.

Cuba has a national health system too, oft quoted as the epitome of joy. However, beyond the PR and the few modern hospitals serving the elite, the Cuban model is as bad as the next poor countries healthcare system. Syria has been mentioned, but I would rather fly out of Syria if I got ill.

this post shows how people lack understanding of our constitution and why we hate socialism, communism and nationalism, it literally goes against the constitution regardless how good it is.

you might not see it but socialist policies are just chains that slowly erode free states from the inside, it satisfies our greed and the "happiness" we feel blinds us to the truth, which is that a prison is being made to enslave our minds to the state and corporations.

socialism is deception.

In socialism everyone works for society for the benefit of society. Everyone works for everyone else. That's why it's call socialism which is derived from the word society. As opposed to working only for the profit of oneself.

That isn't how socialism works, like at all. You should look into it.

human nature is the flaw. when joe blow is a slacker and lives off the backs of his fellow man toiling away the others resent him and in turn resent having to give what they worked for cause his lazy a$$ isnt willing to do his equal share. human greed comes into the equation aswell when u get someone that has to determine the share everyone gets, cause eventually u have to have a group of people to make that decision. power always corrupts. try to figure out a way to keep mans flaws in check and then youll have something we can talk about

kaelci is from Australia (great southern land) and is 100% correct.
Emergency departments in hospitals here have a triage system that treats peoples on the seriousness of the health emergency. The more serious the quicker you will be seen too. Many of the larger hospitals also have paediatric triage separate from main triage so children are seen to in a timely manner.
While our free public healthcare is not perfect it is quite decent although struggles more as the population grows.

The best way to keep this idiotic logic out of our schools is to not tell the class that you are taking a an average of the entire classes' grade on each project. Everyone gets the same grade. You will see a massive MINDF@@@ happen in the lower and higher ends of the class.

The Better students will be pissed, talk to their teachers and possibly go higher to demand their grade changed, and the lower part of the class will slip farther into not giving a crap because they now know they won't have to do anything. That is until eventually everyone slips into not caring.

Socialism, the great unmotivator.

Syria is a bad model for this type of implementation, primarily because of the rapid population growth.

Rise in Population necessitates a rise in resources, and if the requirements to sustain the new demographic model does not grow in accordance with the rise in population, is not rapid enough, distributed effectively and evenly, you basically end up with a huge pissed off population and have to bomb the crap out of the massive amounts of pissed off, hungry, poorly educated, cramped and fed-up people screaming for your head in the streets.

A rise in population that quickly is never a good thing....EVER.

I'd contribute more thoughts regarding a sustainable Socialist model, but I'm still a student and I know better than to toss out a half-finished thesis at this point in my studies.

What about the people who have disease or who are disabled and who cannot work? They cannot contribute to society so who would willingly work to take care of them? Only volunteers who have self actualized once they have free housing, free education, free healthcare, in accordance to Maslow's triangle.

I'm disabled and cannot work in the conventional avenues anymore, so I work within the ones I am able.

I've finally worked up to the Self-Actualization aspect on the Hierarchy, and tending to my education vigilantly and honing my personal talents in a way to contribute back to my Community and Country to the best of my abilities.

There's some merit to that idea....assuming each person within the model gives a damn about giving back in a positive and constructive manner.

The word socialism should be banned from the vocabulary of anyone who cherished there freedom.

The reason why america is great is because we continue to kick the threat of socialism in the nuts.

If people cant affford health care, they need to move to france. America doesnt need sick people.

If people cant afford education, good. The universites are just left wing libby libtard communistical scams. You want a degree? Move to france. There all communists their.

If you want a government handout? Move to france. In the USA, we only want people who work for a living. Cant find a job? Move to france. We dont need lazy lay abouts here. Go to france.

America is the greatest country on the world or any other world because people have to work to survive. Those who dont want to work because work is too hard need to move to france.

THis is AMERICA.

Syria is a proxy of Russia. Russia is on good terms of Israel. Russia controls what Syria does. Syria is a threat to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, not to Israel.

I propose the US quit giving money to anyone, call in their debts and withdraw from every country we are in. We would see a massive boom in our economy. We already have enough military might to counter any possible attack that may come.

Cool. China will then call in their 1 trillion owed to them from bonds the US sold them years ago and the US economy will crash. Well done.

Oh, and you'll soon find out that the US cannot survive without the rest of the world either. Double Whammy.

Wow.

The world already thinks that America is a country full of selfish fools that have no love for, nor will to help, their neighbours and it's every man for himself. Thanks for confirming this.

America is a failed nation. It just hasn't worked that out yet.
