Reading through the usual range of end-of-the-world threads on ATS does intrest me. Recently though I have, with help from a paranoid, ATS trained mind, started to wonder about a couple of things.

Despite my reading of such threads I really do not take too much in, it is just a light read while taking tea... however.

With the Popes recent ill health in my mind and the vague recollection about the next Pope being the anti-christ or something the memory of a statement about him/her/it bringing seven years of peace comes to mind.

When then I heard that Egypt was to host a Middle East summit this thought again surfaced.

Israel-Palestine to declare ceasefire

Now I know that there are many such 'EOW' threads on ATS but is this one different? Are things really starting to follow a path? Are there any other happenings?

'The next pope being the anti-christ ...' uh ... no.

The anti-christ has to be adored by the entire world
and people have to hang on his every word and be dazzled by
him. The pope we have now, (and any of the cardinals) don't
have this charisma. There are 1 billion 'Catholics' on this planet.
(I use that term loosly because many claim to be Catholic
but most don't follow what the Church teaches so they are
really what we call - Cafeteria Catholics)
Most don't listen to Rome or the church. The other 1 billion
Christians certainly don't follow what Rome says. The other 4
billion people aren't Christian and definately don't follow Rome.

I hope the next pope is Cardinal Arinze. He's from Nigeria. He's
a wonderful man with tons of common sense and his 'specialty'
is inter-religious dialog. We had the honor of meeting him on the
day our daughter became an American citizen (she's adopted
from Bolivia). MAJOR COMMON SENSE and he's not from Europe.
That's something needed in Rome. Oh ... and he's a convert to
Catholicism too. His youth was spent in a different religion.

Now, what sort of actionable response would be made according to this? Preventing peace between israel and its neighbhors?

The revelation book also says that a multiheaded monster swims up out of the ocean and puts a mark on everyone.

Now, I'm not going to oppose peace in the middle east, but if a multiheaded monster comes out of the atlantic, I'll support war against it.

Seems like a reasonable compromise.

Hey ya Nygdan. Being the heritic that I am ...
I'm not sold on Revelation being visions from God.
St. John was an old man, living in excile, having a
stressful time. He saw his friends all murdered.
He himself survived an assassination attempt or
two. I lean toward Revelation being stress
induced dreams in an old man who may have
had dementia. They were holy dreams because
his life was focused on God and the holy things.

Revelation may, or may not, have been a prophecy
from God. I'm just not sold on Revelation.

I'd also think that he might've just been 'covertly' communicating with other members of the christian community. The beast being, say, the roman establishment that was oppressing them, the false prophet being the prophets of other gods (ie mithraism, or out and out 'christian heretics') and the like.

The early christian community I get the impression expected Jesus to return in the lifetime. After john published revelation, they expected that return to be associated with an apocalypse.

Well, according to the Weekly World Report, the antichrist is going to run for president. This leads me to believe that the antichrist is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Just a thought.

Peace

That means Hillary. I have a few 'Hillary is the Antichrist'
bumperstickers all set for her run. Really. I just can't
stand the woman.
