Who cares if it's Ann Coulter or not!

A group used threat of violence to deter/inhibit/prevent someone from speaking.

That is never ok.

No matter how much anyone tries to justify it.

In rough order of your presentation:

You know as well as I do that the "denial of service" argument only goes one way when "conservatives" are involved.

Is Ann a California citizen? Nope. Did she have a contract with the University to perform a service? Nope.

OP's source states clearly that Coulter decided not to go. Take up your quibble with that source.

Trump supporters have stated clearly that they felt he was directing them to do violence from the podium. Most of us who aren't blind sycophants and apologists heard him do so time after time. And there you go, you want to justify incitement as long as it's a private venue? LOL. True colors.

Violence for political purposes is wrong. So is blatant hypocrisy and dishonesty.

It is a sad day and a hard thing to admit.

The "terrorists" win again.

I say this as the excepted goal of terrorists is to exact change through fear.
I only wish these people would remember that "even though I may disagree with what you say, I will defend your right to say it".

Oh, the hyperbole of right-wing wailing and gnashing of teeth ...

Earlier this month, a bloody brawl broke out in downtown Berkeley at a pro-Trump protest that featured speeches by members of the white nationalist right. They clashed with a group of Trump critics who called themselves anti-fascists. Similar violent clashes also erupted at the same site, a public park, on March 4.

ABC

Berkeley has become a meeting ground for what the city’s chief of police, Andrew Greenwood, has described as politically motivated groups “armed and prepared to fight.” Outside groups representing the far left and far right have clashed in the city several times over the past few months in a fight club atmosphere that university administrators say they have not seen in many years, if ever.

NYT

The university's attempt to call off the event came after a series of violent clashes this year on campus and in downtown Berkeley between far-right and far-left protesters.

Fox News

As usual, this is not a case of "one side or the other" instigating violence, but extremists who want to cause conflict.

Berkeley should have moved forward with the speech, undoubtedly, however, this is a political action for political purposes and anyone who tries to claim that the violence is ONLY on "one side" is either ignorant or lying.

Haha this made me laugh.
It's sad when a supposedly liberal society of educated individuals become triggered by and intolerant of others views with which they disagree. I guess for some a level headed discussion of opposing views steered by Logic is impossible to have.
For any true liberal subscriber out there and I know there's a lot of you how can you reconcile actions that spit in the face of logic for a true liberal minded individual.
It is my opinion that the Progressive Party( liberal) and the good intentions of the good people in that party have been hijacked by Marxist politics and Saul Alinsky tactics, but that's just my opinion it's not like there's any stats to back that up.....

Logic? Level-headed discussion?

You just spewed most of the right-wing buzzwords that have nothing to do with the situation at hand, assumed that anyone who is "liberal" or "a member of the Progressive Party" (what?) was in favor of Berkeley's actions.

I'm not "a liberal" but I did state clearly above that there was no reason to shut the hate-monger down. Two well-known ACTUAL Progressives, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, are both on the public record IN FAVOR of letting Coulter speak.

So you're doing nothing here but spouting more nonsensical right-wing garbage ... and you want to cry about liberals?

Pfft.

Info about Karl Marx and Marxism
www.econlib.org...

Marxism
by David L. Prychitko

"More than a century after his death, Karl Marx remains one of the most controversial figures in the Western world. His relentless criticism of capitalism and his corresponding promise of an inevitable, harmonious socialist future inspired a revolution of global proportions. It seemed that—with the Bolshevik revolution in Russia and the spread of communism throughout Eastern Europe—the Marxist dream had firmly taken root during the first half of the twentieth century."

Saul Alinsky
The most common book bought with Saul alinsky's Rules for Radicals is Karl Marx The Communist Manifesto.

Do you really think anyone here is unfamiliar with Karl Marx or Marxism?

Your post above does exactly what it's complaining that others are doing. We call that hypocrisy.

Not really sure how it's hypocrisy but I am hoping for you to explain in more detail.
Openly rioting and causing violence or inciting violence to block dialogue between two parties or opposing views is straight out of the Communist Manifesto. Community organizing "power to the people" to stand up or in the case of Berkeley Riot and incite violence is a twisted play run out of Rules for Radicals.
"oh the hypocrisy"
Also I'm sure most members and readers know of these two figures some probably much more than others.

You're not sure how whining about others supposedly making a partisan statement by making a partisan statement of your own is hypocrisy?

You're "sure" that most members are familiar with Marx and Alinsky? Well, the only folks I hear talk about either of them are right-wingers, so you're probably about 30-40% correct in that at least.

Let me make it completely clear what I'm saying to you again. You're upset that there is a liberal/Progressive agenda at work in UC Berkeley's actions here. While I'm not a liberal or a Progressive per se, I think you'd have to admit that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are ... and they are BOTH on public record suggesting that Berkeley let Coulter speak.

Your dog-whistle screed above is doing exactly what you're trying to cite others for doing ... politicizing what should be a free-speech issue.

More clear? Good.

People who say that all antifa groups are violent and redefine words like 'the left' or 'liberalism'. That's the Murican Burger Perspective I was getting at.
Which is why I felt like adding another stupid reduction for an adequate response, the other way around if you like. Call me a Kraut if you can't stand it but I think you'll catch the drift.

While I have no love, or respect for Ann Coulter, I do not celebrate in any way, shape or form, the idea that free speech shouldn't be allowed. To me Ann Coulter is repulsive and she reeks of racism. But Free Speech is a very important thing. People should be allowed to speak their minds in public.

Now why the venue she chose in the first place would be Berkeley is beyond anyone's imagination...Unless this is a show for the media.

What difference does it make WHERE she chooses to speak?

The fact that she was invited to speak there should be answer enough.

To be fair I did edit my post to before I saw your reply thanks for the explanation on my hypocrisy and right-wing buzzwords.
"Let me make it completely clear what I'm saying to you again. You're upset that there is a liberal/Progressive agenda at work in UC Berkeley's actions here."
... let me be perfectly clear with intent of my original post. I'm not upset about a progressive agenda at work at Berkeley. Hopefully there's a conservative agenda at work at Berkeley. What should be upsetting to everyone is that there is a complete lack of effort at openly supporting the discussion of opposing ideals from different parties in a rational manner.

Does it matter why her invitation was cancelled then? She's still free to sell her primitive provocations elsewhere, that's a pretty straight answer to your free speech rants.

Especially now, in the aftermath of this marketing scam. You've been played, congrats!

So she cancelled?

No one stopped her from attending?

Her consistent hate speech, promoting of violence in the name of free speech seems to be bringing her consequences.

Everyone has freedom of speech, but not freedom from consequences.

I'm sure even the most pea brained of people can figure that one out.
