Erdogan and his Islamist proxies launched new campaign in northern Syria against America backed Syrian Democratic Forces after the referendum which makes Erdogan's powers unchecked. Looks like a bloody theater has began.

From what little I understand, Turkey is isolating itself diplomatically.

Turkey's relations with the EU are the worst they've been in years (as Turkish officials admit), and internationally many are critical of how the government has jailed 40,000 people since the attempted coup last year, yet Turkey doesn't respond to these criticisms or simply reverts to their statement that the coup was an attempt to "take down the Turkish democracy".

Even academics and other professionals who have voiced their disagreement with the authorities' draconian response to the attempted coup are being targeted. If not detained and jailed, they are being laid off from their jobs and being attacked in other ways.

The only thing I'd add is since the coup they've distanced themselves with America and started leaning towards Russia.

Which is odd considering they shot down a Russian jet and are active in Syria.

This is a pissing contest between Turkey and the Kurds, who are considered terrorists in Turkey. However, the Kurds have been pretty good allies with the US both in Syria and Iraq and are pretty fearsome fighters. I don't see this escalating anywhere beyond this as neither side really has anything to gain, they both want Assad out.

Erdogan thinks he is the new sultan. No one can control him. He has dictatorial power in Turkey.

Nothing odd about that. Usa most probably told them to do that and promise them protection. Then find out how much that mean and realise how vile and disgusting the usa treat their friends
