I'm curious why you say smudging is not the way to go?
Every famous psychic I've seen on t.v. or videos recommends smudging with sage to get rid of unwanted spirits.

I know incense is used to affect one's mind through smell, just as sound and light are, but I've never heard anyone say not to smudge with sage.

Just asking.

ETA: I'd also like to say that when the ghosties get too active in my house, all I have to do is mention that I'm going to bring out my smudge stick, and all activity stops immediately. LOL

Then you need to toughen up. I was commenting on your opinion, which I think is wrong. If you don't want people to comment on your posts, then you shouldn't post to an open forum. And keep in mind emotion and connotation do not convey well in posts. I wasn't frothing at the mouth in rage, or cursing your existence when I replied. I'd hardly call my reply an 'insult.

Whoa. I didn't say anyone was 'nuts', as you put it. I said they should go to see their general practitioner and get a referral to see a specialist in mental health issues; ie: a psychiatrist.

You're the one being insensitive and equating mental health issues with being 'nuts'.

We've been "friends" on Face Book for several years, but he lives across the ocean from me, so I've not met him in person.

its a person and they're using very advanced technology to pretend they're spirits. there is lots of creeps doing it for amusement. they even replace some peoples spouses completely so they can live out their fantasies of having people like them

If I had a friend in a similar situation, I would recommend the following actions:

• Get rid of the chair (obviously)! Can't they just give it back? Even if it's only a psychosomatic trigger - it's a still trigger. If there is any believe that there is possibly anything "paranormal" regarding that chair, then maybe its best to break it up and trash it - rather than sell it or give it away - just for a clear-conscience (i.e. not passing problems onto anyone else).
  
• Get the daughter to see a psychiatric professional (period).
  
• Have friend discuss with her sister any history of that chair, and more importantly - was there any history of abuse in their family (both her and her sister with their parents, and also within your friends family now - relationship with husband/daughter/etc.? in particular things maybe have not admitted yet? If so, the entire family should go to counseling to work-out any issues.
  

IMH(f)O anyway. Best of luck.

PS: I wouldn't advise starting any on-site paranormal investigation until the psychiatric state of the daughter is determined. The power of suggestion is, well ... powerful. Best not to act-out anything that might make things worse. If you believe in the paranormal and this is somehow paranormal - then this is just another reason to not stir things up unnecessarily - until other contributing factors (psychiatric, family issues) are ruled-out.

I have to disagree with you here. It would be nice and neat if it didn't but it does exist. I have experienced it for most of my life. It never happens in ways that can be documented, well almost never. If you've never had any of these kind of experiences then good for you, I envy you. Obviously there is nothing I can say to validate my own experiences but for me I know they are real.

hi, its not the daughter its happening to, shes seen the shadow and been poked in the back and heard laughing. its her mother its happening to.

the chair has gone, been gone a while, we HAVE traced the chair back to where it came from so i shall pay them a visit.

thing is, i've been thinking. its a shadow and its physically attacking my friend in every way and its targeted her daughter BUT hasn't done anything to her husband, he feels the atmosphere and he knows its there but has not touched him at all. so its targeting women.

i was wondering whether its really something demonic/incubus? or its just a plain old bully, possibly something thats lived thats been attached to the chair in some way. im beginning to think its a bully to be honest and i really hope it is.
