Hi all-- I'm looking for a poem (I believe it might be an old British or Irish poem or song) about the little men marching through the countryside from Passport to Magonia. I think it was near the beginning. It's in the first edition at least but I can't put my hands on mine.

Thanks.

Yes, that's it. I googled and got the whole thing.

Greatly appreciated!

Magnolia or beige? Magonia?

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren’t go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl’s feather!

Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain-lake,
With frogs for their watchdogs,
All night awake.

Magonia is another name for Fairyland if I'm not mistaken.

Vallee will sh*t if he hears you've downgraded his book to 'magnolia.'

I thought Magonia was a hypothetical kingdom in the sky that the medieval French(?) believed in to the point that there was a law against going up to Magnonia when its inhabitants visited.

But it's been 25 years since I read the book.

Went ahead and did an OCD edit.

Ah, except "The Fairies" and "Little Orphant Annie" by James Whitcomb Riley are memories of cover stories, of course.

Onc’t they was a little boy wouldn’t say his prayers,--
So when he went to bed at night, away up stairs,
His Mammy heerd him holler, an’ his Daddy heerd him bawl,
An’ when they turn’t the kivvers down, he wasn’t there at all!
An’ they seeked him in the rafter-room, an’ cubby-hole, an’ press,
An’ seeked him up the chimbly-flue, an’ ever’wheres, I guess;
But all they ever found was thist his pants an’ roundabout--
An’ the Gobble-uns’ll git you
Ef you
Don’t
Watch
Out!

An’ one time a little girl ‘ud allus laugh an’ grin,
An’ make fun of ever’one, an’ all her blood an’ kin;
An’ onc’t, when they was “company," an’ ole folks was there,
She mocked ‘em an’ shocked ‘em, an’ said she didn’t care!
An’ thist as she kicked her heels, an’ turn’t to run an’ hide,
They was two great big Black Things a-standin’ by her side,
An’ they snatched her through the ceilin’ ‘fore she knowed what she’s about!
An’ the Gobble-uns’ll git you
Ef you
Don’t
Watch
Out!

is obviously about abduction in the first quoted verse, probably by greys, and about abduction by Shadow People in the second. And what sort of "little men" would scare you out of going into the mountain or glen? Why, grays setting up a temporary base, of course.

It just comes out in adults telling tales of childhood horrors, because the conditioning is wearing out.

Heh.

I'm actually half way through reading Passport To Magonia right now, though I have the most recent published edition with the cool new artwork on the cover:

So is this poem not in my version? I don't remember reading it and flipping through the book just now I don't see it.

i feel that things like grey aliens and abductions have more to do with brain psychology and misfirings than actual aliens and that is why although the phenonena exists for thousands of years the characters look different. Just like most alien abduction stories are limited by the abductees limitations in understanding of science.

As for vallee and his ultra dimensional alien theory. Sounds like something he should know better (literally) to propose. In my mind its pretty ridiculous of a propounding.
