There's something about the movie medium itself that results in tons and tons and tons of crap getting produced.

Very hard to find a gem.

That said, check out

Exit Humanity (never knew a zombie movie could be haunting)

The Invitation (slowburn-wow)

Bone Tomahawk (you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll have nightmares)

Late Phases of the Moon (appears B last ridiculous at first and then. ..you are drawn in to a true gem of a movie)

Great list, I've seen about a third of them. Frailty was a masterpiece. RIP Bill Paxton.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes is a total mind eff of a thriller. Very creepy and you will not see any of it coming.

I use this as a my guide. I've seen all but 3 or 4 out of the top 100. Most have been pretty solid.

I'm a bit tired of all the political rants and have been looking for a good movie to watch tonight. It got me thinking that I rarely like Hollywood movies anymore, with the exception of comic book/action movies I don't see much coming from there that entertains me.

With those points in mind, I'm looking for suggestions for movies to watch that I may not have heard of, but you found entertaining. (Also, if you know if it is available on Netflix or somewhere on-line that'd be great too.)

Here's an example of a movie I very much enjoyed but that you may not have heard about:

Drained

This is a Brazilian movie and so, if you don't speak Portuguese, then you'll need to read subtitles. It is a farcical movie about obsession. It is brilliantly written and has great acting. It also is quintessentially Brazilian. If you are open minded and in a silly mood, this is a 5 star gem.

Another one I like has a different take on the whole alien hypothesis. Has some occult and cultic themes too. Pretty good acting and decent cgi for an independent movie.

MIdnight Special

Midnight Special....horrible. ...just horrible. I expected more out of Shannon after take shelter.

If you like James Spader, he's a kid in this one, a jock, class of '84.

Sort of hard to find these days, but it was a community
handout when it came out,
now it's a cult classic.

"One Man's Seduction"

cast: Dennis Weaver, Spader, Jeffrey Tambor

You get the bok choy, I'll get the appetizers...

Also, "Sex, Lies, and Addiction"

This stars Lisa Rinna's Lips, and their husband Harry Hamlin.

As an added attraction, freeze frame when Lisa mouths "you want a ride!"

Both of these are a must watch.

Watch "Triangle" if you want a serious mind bender.
I thought it was going to be a regular corn ball horror flick, but I was stunned at what a mind-shatterer it was.
One of the most original movies I've seen in a long time.

"Bad Influence"

A classic take on film noir.

Spader and Lowe

Films like this make me wish I blew David Geffen for perks
when he was jacked up on
toots+booze+acid,
and in love with Cher.

City of Ember

Who is Cletus Tout?

All of the above are lesser known gems, imo, of my favorite movies.
