The republicans have turned the ACA into what it is today. By not fully supporting it in their states and by removing risk corridors. If the Democrats would have tried to open the bill to fix it the republicans would have just made it worse than they already have.

What about this latest option that's making the rounds amongst House GOP members?

""Conservative health economists Jim Capretta and Lanhee Chen float an interesting policy idea in today's Wall Street Journal: automatically enrolling uninsured Americans in high-deductible health plans.""

If all "wellness" exams are free, like they are now... And there are nominal Dr. Visit Co-pays for sickness. WHY NOT?

So even more forced purchases of health insurance for people who don't want it, on the back of taxpayers. AND it's the "insurance" that basically condemns you to heart disease or cancer rather than prevents it?

You've done quite a flip flop on supporting a mandate.

there's two reasons why a person might not have health insurance..
one is that they are young and healthy and think that they won't spend enough on their healthcare to meet even a reasonable deductible, and baring something catastrophic happening to them, they are probably right.
or two, they aren't young, they aren't healthy, and quite frankly they aren't rich enough to afford the health insurance, let alone an insane deductible, meds, and copays anyways.

in either case, this isn't really gonna do either group much good, is it? which makes this idea just another giant infusion of tax payer money (of which, some from both these groups will be contributing to) to the health insurance industry so that they can more easily cover the cost of those who have the insurance and are lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the fact they can cover the deductible, the co pays, the meds, while the insurance companies still maintain their six to seven figure salaries for their upper management and ceos... heck who knows maybe we will see them all get another giant bonus and raises!!!
