Well looks like CNN finally got around to reporting, albeit with very limited information.

Coalition and Syrian opposition forces repel ISIS attack
(CNN)Anti-ISIS coalition troops and allied Syrian opposition forces have repelled an attack by the terrorist group on a joint base in southern Syria, according to the coalition.
The US-led coalition said ISIS initiated a complex attack on Saturday at the At Tanf Garrison on the Syrian-Jordanian border using a vehicle-borne IED, and 20-30 fighters followed with a ground assault and suicide vests.
"Coalition and partnered forces engaged and defended the ISIS attack with direct fire before destroying enemy assault vehicles and the remaining fighters with multiple coalition airstrikes," the coalition said in a news release.
It is not known how long the battle lasted.

Initial reports indicate the assault did not result in any coalition casualties, a coalition official told CNN.
Some American forces were at the base at the time of the assault, the official said.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA – ISIS launched a surprise offensive on the Tanf Border Crossing between Syria and Iraq following a powerful car bomb attack on the border outpost which killed three insurgents from the FSA’s Osoud al-Sharqiyah (Lions of the East).

US-backed Syrian rebels were quickly surrounded by a group of ISIS fighters who have prowessed desert warfare and maneuvers prompting US and Jordanian troops to intervene hurriedly to lift the pressure off their Syrian allies. Some 20 US tanks and armored vehicles were allegedly involved in repelling the ISIS assault.

Jordanian jets were seen by eye witnesses; though it remains unknown whether airstrikes were carried out. Whether this is a minor intervention limited to protecting FSA fighters allied to the US-led Coalition or a prelude to a much more expansive operation aimed at expelling the Islamic State terror group from the Syrian Badiyah (desert) is yet to be seen.

Some US troops on the Jordanian borders with Syria are standing by with Jordanian special forces, the reasons unknown yet.

Gee you think? We've been there for some time, boots on the ground. Whether it is US army or paid foreign fighters we are in this fight.

Its just a mess with no clear enemy, and no clear friend. The rich benefit, the poor get stomped into the ground.

What benefit is it to the US to clear out Assad?
