Hi all, it's a beautiful Friday evening on my block; just the perfect time for some Southern rap and its laid-back, easy vibe.
There are just so many good Southern rappers, and so much of the rich Southern culture comes through their music. I just love certain aspects of the
South, and the slower lifestyle and hospitality are among them. The food is delicious. The houses are decadent (either lavish or literally
decaying).. what I've seen of it is so interesting and full of paradox. I think a lot of the music that comes from the south The South boasts a
couple of rappers who are (in my opinion) among the greatest of all time in the scene, as well as so many other great artists.
I feel as if the South gets slept on a lot when discussing the greatest rappers out there. I'd like to hear what you think-- do you place Southern
rappers high in your estimation overall in the rap scene? Does Scarface rank in your top emcees? Do you think the South gets overlooked or does it
get the props it deserves? Which Southern rapper/s is your favorite and which albums do you consider the best?
For me, Scarface Mr Scarface is Back and The Diary are must haves, but his first tracks are also great, as is most his work with Geto
Boys.
Outkast's first 4 albums are legendary.
And then there are many, many more deserving of credit. I'll post some in here and hope to hear some of your favorite Southern songs.
Let's start with the legend Scarface. He played guitar as a kid and loved taking things apart.. got in fights.. starting selling dope. His lyrics
focus on death, life on the streets of Houston. In his youth, Face watched a close friend die, tried to kill himself, overdosed, but survived and
went on to thrive.
This song is perfect. It's Scarface's favorite track.
a couple more great tracks
I highly recommend you take the time to listen to his first tracks and first three albums.. all great. But now I'll move on.
Outkast is one of the greatest rap duos ever. They produced 4 excellent albums, all with a unique sound that is great from start to finish.
I'll post the first track that the world heard from Outkast. It's (imo) the best intro track of all time.
Moving on to 8 Ball and MJG:
Goodie Mobb:
Big Mike and Pimp C:
UGK:
This is just hilarious! The D.O.C. before he went to L.A. and made one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time..
and, finally, I leave you with Killer Mike:

Hi zosi, I think you've got all the great southern rappers covered, but I would definitely add Lil Wayne and ludacris. All legends in their own
rights.
Nice, and thank you guys for rounding out the list so far!
We're on a roll.
Project Pat definitely deserves recognition.
My brother and I used to crack up when this one came on
