Thanks for this info. I think it's extremely telling that it ranked 23rd.

That's certainly not going to light a fire under the government's butt. The people are dooming themselves.

Peace

What do you expect? I'm actually shocked at 23rd, given the complete lack of advertising this thing had. I first learned about it here on ATS, and haven't seen even ONE tv commercial or print ad for it.....

Has anyone received a response from Peter Jennings yet?

No, and my post on their message boards is pretty much unanswered as well...

Not that I'm surprised....

first off, the top two slots that week were the oscars and the oscar countdown. that would make the show 21 for the week.

second, you need to compare the result against the other shows in the same times slot. the numbers were not bad for a show like that. I would have expected a much lower turnout.

I emailed about a half dozen UFO specialist and websites asking for their thoughts on the special. So far I have had 2 resonses:

CSETI/Disclosure Project director Dr. Steven Greer was interviewed on a radio program the day after the documentary aired. You can read the transcript on the Disclosure Project web site --- there's a link from the home page www.disclosureproject.org and the transcript page - www.disclosureproject.org/transcripts.htm

Best wishes,
Debbie Foch
Coordinator

The transcript of the radio interview with Dr. Greer is pretty interesting.

and...

I had mixed emotions about the program. First, it was about what I expected. Second, some parts of it in the second hour were very poorly done. Third, I was pleased to see someone with the stature of Peter Jennings do a program in prime time. I don't think it changed any minds because most people already have a pretty good idea of what is going on.

I summarized my opinions about the program on the home page of the MUFON web site at www.mufon.com. You might want to check it out.

Best regards,
John Schuessler
MUFON Int. Dir

I also sent email request to ufocasebook.com, Art Bell, and
George Noory from coast to coast. Once I get their replies I'll post them here too

Some great excerpts from MUFON's reaction...

“UFOs – Seeing Is Believing” seemed to be produced by two different production teams – one for the first hour and a different one for the second hour. Perhaps that is why the two one-hour segments seemed so disjointed. They didn’t fit together.

An interesting point to consider that would explain a LOT of things. And of course, something the public will NEVER have pointed out to them...

The Roswell segment of the program appeared to be something that was slipped in late in the process and done by a whole different production team. It is difficult to find anything positive to say about the Roswell material. It was very one-sided and avoided any information that could give Roswell any credibility. It didn’t matter that the Air Force lied about the weather balloon answer, or that they later changed the story to Mogul balloons when there is no record of a Mogul balloon launch that fits the timing or location. It also didn’t matter that the debris field was huge, not the size of a little tin foil radar reflector. It didn’t matter that Jesse Marcel and all of the people at the Roswell base were the top military people in the field – the only atom bomb squadron in the country. It makes them sound like they were so dumb that they didn’t know what a weather balloon was. That is a real insult to the skills and capabilities of the Roswell military people. Even though this program was touted as “UFOs – Seeing Is Believing,” they omitted the eyewitness testimony of more than 250 people involved in the incident at Roswell, as has been documented by Friedman, Randle, and others. Acting like the Fox network Alien Autopsy show was a vital part of this incident was ridiculous. I know of no researcher that can show a connection of the autopsy material to Roswell. Equally ridiculous was the showing of the Air Force spokesman that said time dilation made people think that the crash test dummies in Utah in 1952 were aliens found at the crash site. And the showing of people in alien costumes at the Roswell summer festival did nothing but poke fun at the Roswell incident. There was very little science used in this segment of the program.

I couldn't agree more...

In my opinion, the abduction segment was as poorly done as the Roswell segment. The treatment of these two subjects severely degraded the overall objectivity of the program.
In summary, I appreciate the fact that ABC aired the two-hour program and that Peter Jennings was willing to put his name on it. In spite of its shortcomings, it was a worthwhile program. The good news is that the public was not fooled. The local Denver ABC affiliate conducted a survey on their website right after the program. They asked “Do you believe in UFOs?” 71% answered yes, 13% not sure and 16% no.

That's at least good news, and encouraging....

I know many of you were dispaointed with the Peter Jennings' Feb 24th ABC 2 hour Special on UFOs. There may be good reason(s) why the tv special turned out the way it did

Here are a few bits from an interesting transcript (Double-click here) of Dr. Steven Greer's Interview on Charles Goyette Radio Show February 25, 2005

The public is very interested in (the UFO) subject, but they are constantly misinformed and a piece like last night (the ABC Special "UFOs: Seeing is Believing"), what it does is puts a few little pieces of information that's credible in it and about the rest of the hour or 45 minutes was just rubbish, and I'm afraid that this is the kind of thing that people are tired of seeing, in many respects, but also confuses the issue more than elucidates it because it is disinformation to put out to the public a statement, like Peter Jennings did, that the government is no longer in this business. Well, not the acknowledged government, but there's an unacknowledged government, so I think that he cannot be that naive -- I mean, either the people who wrote that for him were scripting a fairy tale or these people are truly naive about what goes on in Washington.

Let me tell you what ABC News did during 2001. You mentioned the Disclosure Project press conference, which was covered worldwide...ABC News -- the guy who was their executive producer for 20/20 and Primetime Live -- wanted to do a special segment using these hard hitting witnesses. Time went by, and weeks and weeks, and he finally called me and he said "You know, they're not going to let me do this segment." I said I thought you were the executive producer and had control over this project. He said, well you know who "they" are. And click, the line went dead. That's a true story. One of the problems is that people in this country think the media, the big media, is "free" (quote, unquote). I have a document on our web site, it's linked to a paper I did last year called "Media Play", and it is a CIA document from the 1990's that describes their contacts at major media to kill or spin stories that "they" don't want out to the public. So, one of the problems is that the media is most certainly not what most people think it is -- some arbiter of truth, as you said earlier. I mean, on the contrary, they're usually shills sitting at the right hand of the king taking dictation, and unfortunately all of us are losing in the process.

Here is the email reply BJ Booth, UFO Researcher at www.ufocasebook.com

Well, I don't agree with much of what is being said on the UFO boards since the show. I thought that the show was trying to tell us that there is a lot of evidence that points to the reality of UFOs. Naturally, there is no way they would have presented 2 hours of pro-UFO evidence without giving some of the other side. The show was a big step in the right direction.

I think that's a pretty honest answer. In reality, how many of us here really thought Peter Jennings was gonna "blow the lid" off the UFO conspirecy? I think that in the back of our minds, we all knew that the show would provide decent evidence with hardened skepticism in the same show.

Well, without the Roswell segment, I'd agree...and that it was pretty much formulaic. Hell, I even laid out how it would flow back on the first couple pages of this thread...no surprises there really....

What I was surprised at was the need to debunk Roswell and dismiss it. For ANY program on UFOs to just toss it aside, without even examining the evidence or mentioning the credentials of the witnesses, isn't just irresponsible, it's downright negligent...

Completely agree. I would have rather they completely leave Roswell out of the entire thing, than have the garbage that they used in there. That and the complete waste of time spent on Seti (who have absolutely nothing to do with UFO research) could have been left out as well IMO.

True. SETI isn't really part of an investigation on UFOs....Unlike most UFOlogists though, I actually do believe that SETI is serving a usefull function...and for one primary reason. If they DO actually find anything, then it will be IMPOSSIBLE for the government to cover it up if it ever gets out to the public. (which it likely will, despite any protocals).

The problem with SETI though, is it's like looking for a particular needle in a stack of needles. I went into this on the SETI thread, but a quick example...

We aren't going to use TV and radio forever. Eventually, we'll use another medium for it. We've only been using it for around 100 years. So, lets say that a civilization 3000 light years (a next door neighbor cosmologically speaking) used them for about 300 years before switching to something else. Now, let's say they stopped using it about 800 years ago. Well, those transmissions are STILL thousands of years away from reaching Earth! Now, what if their last transmission of such signals was 8000 years ago instead? (well, I'm too lazy to do the math here to be sure, but...) Chances are that last transmission arrived to Earth before SETI was ever set up! This same problem goes for any other such civilization out there as well. It's a small window of time, and THEN you have to be looking at the exact right spot as well.

It's unlikely, even if millions of such civilizations have come and gone, but I think it well worth the effort if we pick up an alien version of I Love Lacerta
!!! I'd like to see the G-men try and cover THAT up, hehe....

Hello all, fist time posting here. Just wanted to say im really impressed with the amount of knowledge that you all bring here, there are alot of quality posts. Anyway, I was checking out some sites and came across this site www.wanttoknow.info... i thought it was interesting considering the Peter Jennings report. The story I found to be kinda disturbing was the second story from the bottom of the page, story title is John Kelly - Author/ABC Producer. I thought it was interesting and maybe some of you might also. I thought the Peter Jennings report was very lazy in its research for the show but a good beginning to open public awarness again. Wouldnt say I was impressed but a start, untill I read the above article about the ABC network and who bought it.

Also, I am a believer in intelligant life outside our own existance, it would be egotistical and ignorant to think we are the only intelligent life in this vast and infinite universe. I also believe that we have been visited and continue to be visited today and Im certain we are in a trickle effect, with the information thats already out there and the new information thats being found, the populus is starting to realize, what most of us here have known for some time now, that we are not alone and that it has been kept from us the public so that "they" (Govt or otherwise) could use it for their own agenda. I believe disclosure is sooner then most people think, anyways hope you enjoy the article and I look forward to posting here again.

I thought the program was pretty even handed.

I personally think it left the open minded person with the impression that there are things/observations going on for which there is no good explanation.

It made it clear that the US Air Force looked into it.
After the government was overloaded with sightings and the paranoia & hysteria of a government that had no control over these things the Air Force intentionally made an effort to discredit all observations.

It does seem to imply that there are things of the Universe or beyond the Universe making appearances pretty regularly.

There is some evidence that life may still exist on Mars at this moment. Locked up in dirt covered ice, overwhich is a higher percentage of methane than most other parts of the planet. Microbes may be alive right there right now. We have found life in almost every place on Earth we look. In water locked in rocks for 100,000s of years. Life at thermal vents in the oceans. Microbes in the arctic regions.

That has to be balanced against the 3 billion years it took for oxygen to be soaked up by surface iron and eventually build up in the atmosphere to enable large multicellular organisms to develop. Coming to us and going 'who knows where' from here. 3 billion years of stable life conditions is quite a long time even in a 13 or 14 billion year old Universe.

The rational question one has to ask is if there are advanced life forms that can traverse the stars and galaxies and/or Universes, is there something about our planet or ourselves that would peak their interest enough to visit us from time to time?

Vanity would have us so important that other more advanced life forms are here to help us or use us. Do you think in the possibly infinite Universe we rate that high? I think not. Logically isn't it more likely that we are simply one more semi-intelligent life form of many in the Universe. Worth a cursory glance, but mostly like human tourists looking at some primates in their natural setting.

I think the best thing to take from these sightings is that there is incredibly advanced technology(ies) that if we have the minds and will(s) to discover them and others.

Something did that. I think we can do that too.
