In the Restaurant at the End of the Universe book. Artur Dent and Ford Prefect tried to get the question by drawing random scrabble letters out of a bag.
What was the question.

Yeah, but the Greeks came quite late to the party. The original creator deities came from far earlier than that. Greece probably just redesigned mythologies from elsewhere. Mesopotamia and Egypt to be more precise.

Now this took me ages to click on to, and I had to understand Genesis to realize it.
Scrabble is a word game.
So if you write the numbers down as words.
It gives fifty and four.
Converting them into numbers again gives 50 and 4.
Pushing them together gives 504.
Would you like to divide that by 84.

Think of it as a Pentagram.
Divide the circle by 5 and multiply by the number of degrees in a circle.

I did 1/5 x360.

I got 72.

Might need some help with this one.

No worries.
The pentagram, aka the hand of god or whatever folk want to call it is a simple and hidden way of recording something we know of as precession of the equinoxes.
360/5 = 72
72 x 360 = 25920.
It's the Great Year or Great Year of God as it can also be known.
It takes 72 years for the equinoxes to move around the sky one degree.

Now divide the scrabble number by 72.

That takes the onus from 'the world' and puts it on you, for your own psychological state and needs.
The odds are that in the 'world' there are no special dispensations for '42'.
Perhaps a single movie and it's cult, here, there...

This isn't about me or any psychological motives whatsoever.
In a very real way it is about the reason for the answer to life the universe and everything.
Perhaps you should go and critique a book or film that you have actually seen, rather than comment on something you know nothing about.

Perhaps I should have phrased that better.
I meant divide the number 504 by 72 which gives 7.
There are two numbers hidden away in the ancient world.
84 and 72.
The Genesis numbers are one of the places they are hidden.
The planet Uranus orbits the Earth 6 times in 504 years, during which time 7 days of precession has passed.
Numbers are everywhere in the ancient world, mostly unnoticed. They can be seen as days, weeks, years and so on.
If we think of the 6 orbits of Uranus as days, then the extra day of the 7 days of precession could be regarded as a day of rest.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Yeah, not a god lover here, though I don't doubt there may be wisdom in the numbers, perhaps it is around the numbers the bible was written.

Though I doubt there was a divine hand in its creation.
