Well, here we go... I can't wait until they pass blasphemy laws for protection of Christians and other religions...
(Like that would happen).

Blasphemy laws... In Canada? really.

Any Canadian members here have more on the story?

www.zerohedge.com...

Despite polls showing that 71% of Canadians would not have voted for the measure, Canada's Parliament, with the strong backing of Justin Trudeau's Liberal government, passed a motion this week 201 to 91 that critics say singles out Islam for special protection. Tabled by Muslim liberal MP Iqra Khalid, M-103 urges the federal government to “condemn Islamophobia” and to “develop a whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia.” The term “Islamophobia” is nowhere defined in the motion.

“This motion will encourage legislation that would criminalize speech deemed ‘islamophobic’ and lay the groundwork for imposing what is essentially a Sharia anti-blasphemy law on all of Canada,” the petition states.

"If that happens, criticism of Islam would constitute a speech crime in Canada,” it states, adding that this “kind of content-based, viewpoint-discriminatory censorship is unacceptable in a Western liberal democracy.”

Great thimg for Canada. Protecting the marginalized is what a society should do.

Hopefully the dems can pass something similar in 2020

Free speech should be limited when people promote any sort of hate or violence against anyone, may it be against muslims or any other religion.

Free speech police should be formed to monitor all the people promotting fear and violence and be sent to jail to replace the ones that are there for non violent crimes.

Agreed. Religious persecution, begun again in this day and age of enlightenment, who'd figure we are heading straight back to Nazi Germany?

Free Speech Police? lolwhat?

No way in hell this isn't a troll post.

Incidentally the law sucks. Canada's Liberal Government sucks even worse. They should rename the Party the Islamic Fascism Party since all Trudeau has done is take decidedly illiberal actions to curtail freedom of speech in Canada.

Things must be different in Canada.

Here in US we're not allowed to make laws specifying a particular religion.

At least thats what various judges are claiming with regard to vetting of folks coming in from terrorist nations.

Thank goodness for those judges as that ought to prevent this happening here.

It always begins this way. First a group or segment is blamed for a society ills. Thus marginalized, they are then segregated, then condemned, then put in ovens.

First the barb wire is placed between us and them, then around them. The real goal is doing away with anyone that disagrees with the State. Focusing on one group first is the opening round.

Well it appears that blasphemy laws are still existent in Canada

en.wikipedia.org...

Blasphemous libel is a crime in Canada under section 296 of the Criminal Code R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46. Subsection (1) reads: "Every one who publishes a blasphemous libel is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years". Subsection (3) reads: "No person shall be convicted of an offence under this section for expressing in good faith and in decent language, or attempting to establish by argument used in good faith and conveyed in decent language, an opinion on a religious subject". Over the summer of 2016, a petition to parliament asking that the blasphemous libel law be repealed was circulated by several Canadian humanist groups.[19] The petition was presented to the Government in December 2016. It responded in January 2017, stating that "blasphemous libel, along with numerous other provisions of the Criminal Code, are presently under review by the Minister [of Justice] and her officials".[20][21]

even though

Abolition and repeal[edit] The United Nations Human Rights Committee has pointed out that blasphemy laws are in breach of countries obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has recommended that all countries abolish or repeal all their blasphemy laws and enact laws that protect freedom of expression.

This is disturbing....I wonder the composition of the committee...

As LifeSiteNews reports, while the motion does not change existing laws or create new ones, it empowers a committee to study the issue of “eliminating…Islamophobia” and the federal government to collect data on Islamic ‘hate crimes’ for further study.

A government banning free speech against a group is the same as rounding them into concentration camps ??

It is actually the spread of sheer insanity that shows in logic like that which is scary...

Yeah, nothing can possibly go wrong there.

You can't possibly be serious?

I'm appalled by this bill, and I voted for Justin.

There is no slippery slope to forming Muslim camps here in Canada, that's completely obsurd.

What DOES form a slippery slip is giving added protection from speech to religions! Religions are full of people who don't agree on particular views, even within the same religion. There is no single definition for the correct way to interpret the bible, the Quran, or any other 'sacred text'.

It's entirely subjective, and because this bill is so generic and uses a blanket term that doesn't define what "islamophobia" is, it means that the law has the potential to be used in absolutely horrible ways.

Am I allowed to debate the validity of the Quran's claims scientifically? Must be islamophobic to question the Quran.

This is a massive problem, how can you nt see this?

The Muslims and Sikhs are getting more disturbed at each other up North...

Temples and mosques side by side great idea...

This melting pot here in Vancouver is starting to boil despite all best efforts...

Doesn't make any sense. We have laws against hate speech up here, we have had them for decades.
We also have had for decades - laws against anti-semitism (sp?)
So it doesn't just single out Islam.
Although I had better not land in jail for uttering Jesus f-ing Christ in public one day, if they make a all encompassing blasphemy law.....

This is completely redundant, a waste of time to make such a law.

You so delusional it cracks me up. Even though the cite showed an overwhelming majority NOT FOR it, I guess they will just have to shut up and accept it, huh?

Islam is a problem that perpetuates itself into a cascade of fire and brimstone. It absolutely will not pass here in the states should a thing pop up, I so damned glad we have Trump in office from this BS. LMFAO, you're so sad.
