The term " Northern Soul " derives from mainly American Soul Music which was played ( on vinyl to begin with, and later on by the performers and artists live ) in the northern clubs of England.

When the Mod culture was in it's dying embers of the late 60's new British cultures began to emerge. Last week i covered one such.....The Skinheads.

The first " Northern Soul " club appeared in Manchester in 1967 called by the name " The Twisted Wheel ". Soon afterwards other clubs began to emerge in other towns and cities of Northern England, soon spreading to The Midlands area.

The music played was recorded by mainly lesser know and more obscure American musicians, and the records they made sold in very small numbers. Hence the rarity. They labels the records where produced on where also little know.

The height of Northern Soul was in the early 70's. The fans who attended such clubs as The Wigan Casino, The Torch and Blackpool Mecca to name a few, had there own dress code and dance moves.

So enjoy some of the music.

Thank you for your generous comments.

Yep, love to get involved and we can trade off some of the more obscure music we both love.

Keep safe.
