The area being talked about is not exactly "the West Coast."
It is a quite small area of it.

Is it enough to cause a huge tsumani? Maybe it would strike North Korea.

Been waiting for it since I saw Superman The Movie.

When Lex Luthor hijacked two ICBMS, (Minite Man 3's I think, being used as cruise missiles in the film, IDIOTS) on test flights, he was going to detonate one of them at a weak point on the San Andreas fault.
Which through a great deal of artistic license would make any part of California west of the fault fall into the pacific.

I do remember as a 9 year old feeling relief of only dealing with tornadoes in Kansas rather than earthquakes.

After conveying this to my dad he promptly told me of the New Madrid fault.

Glad to see I'm not the only one - and dreamingawake also. I'm neither politically "left" or "right", but I just can't stand the ignorance of it any more.

I know SoCal mostly from my many business trips to the Costa Mesa office of the very Republican corporation I used to work for. It's a beautiful place - the weather, the people (of all political persuasions), the scenery (both landscape and human scenery
)

The funny thing is, for the most part, you can't properly guess what a person's political persuasion is, as there's not many extremist D's or R's parroting party line, uninformed talking points. I suppose that's where the gleeful, pro-mass death comments originate from, is the flapping mouths in media who think it's a big joke because some of their political enemies will perish, along with the millions of "every day people."

Wonder if anyone had cared to review study's of San Andreas fault,it is a slip fault, largest quake would be a 7.3,for Calif to drop that far, would be short of impossible, and if that did happen do realize how big Calif is?,the tidal wave would sweep over the earth with trillions of tons of debris, that would likely destroy the US plus several other countrys, more doom porn, they should of done their homework, instead of sitting in some mid western shack ,with inferiority complex

It would be really cool to see a big chunk of land sink into the ocean with a big earthquake.

How are we going to see it if everyone gets washed away? Unless it unfolds slowly and uploaded?

Crazy.
But then, a lot of people live on the East Coast where hurricanes are frequent.
People live in tornado alley.

Flood plains.

Stratovolcanoes!

Crazy.

Along these lines, I wonder about people who live on barrier islands in places like North Carolina & Texas. It's pretty much 100% guaranteed that the next hurricane will wipe out everything on the island.

Shhh. Don't confuse them with science and reason. let them continue to believe the whole West Coast will slip into the ocean, so they stay in their tornado magnet trailer parks and stop moving out here. Our Freeways are too freaking clogged as is.

This is the Daily Mail, a British Conservative rag known for exaggeration and error ridden reporting. This is the same rag that Melania Trump is suing for claiming she worked as an escort. It is a tabloid.

That said, Cali and the West Coast are due for a big one. The San Andreas, while scary because of the size, is not the biggest threat in the state. Its all the subsidiary faults, branch faults, and local faults that are the problem, because they end up taking on the most tension, are mostly shallow, and run under population centers. Like the Hayward Fault, the Northridge fault, ect. We have a fault up here in Washington that runs under the Puget Sound that could be very disastrous from Olympia to Vancouver B.C.

But for the region to actually slip down and slide that far underwater and collapse into the ocean? If that was even possible, you are talking a world wide mega-tsunami that would end it for everyone, rubes included. Look at Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands, the Volcano that some scientists are worried about erupting and breaking off into the Atlantic, causing a 50 foot megatsunami that would wipe out the entire Eastern Seaboard and the Caribean Islands. That is just the displacement of ONE single volcano sliding into the ocean. An entire region thousands of times larger than a volcano, slipping into the ocean. Thats going to displace the whole world ocean.

Thanks for the warning.

It doesn't--it allows the sea to cover some of it...a very, very small portion of it.

This is just more hype and alarmism.

I really wish that ATS would change the name of this forum to either "Fragile Humans," since most of it focuses on how changes affect humans, or "Fragile Egos," since most things posted in here end up being about who is right and who is wrong, even though most of it is based on science that is not fully understood, or predictions that never come true.

Well let's just hope that doesn't happen for a very, very long time. I really love SoCal and I miss living there. It's heaven, dude.

Then why leave ?
Cast out of "paradise" ?

So, you're okay with being responsible for killing thousands, hundreds of thousands (millions?) of fellow Americans because they have a different political ideology? Keep in mind you'd be killing a lot of fellow self professed conservatives and non party related people in that state, as well as left leaning veterans, military men and women.

Oh, and that state is where I live. I have a lot of family and friends here, many of whom are conservative to a T, but that should be irrelevant. We're #ing Americans. How about ISIS? Youd rather prioritize killing "libtards"?

Personally, Im neither party. I think this partisan # is for fools.

However, you'll be thrilled to know that a major quake is inevitable and probably impending. Would be hilarious (and awesome) if no one died from it.

I bet itd be a real stick in your craw.

Is their any documented proof of this happening anywhere in the world at any point in time??? The closest thing I can think of is a piece of a glacier shelf breaking off and still that's way different... anyways see you guys on the flip side when California breaks off i am only 5 mins from the beach lol
