Falcon is one of 1,600 businesses in ADOT's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, which helps small businesses owned by women or minorities get bigger projects to help their business grow.

The program worked for Falcon's owner, Nikki Weiss. In one year, business profits jumped 60 percent, allowing for more investment in the company. The same goes for Alpha Engineering, owned by Steve Gangwal.

Since getting involved in ADOT's program, Gangwal has been able to hire more employees--alleviating some of the pressure of being the little guy. "Just having to wear so many hats opposed to a larger corporation," says Gangwal. "They have everything from the greeter at the door to multiple Vice Presidents and everything else in between."

So if you're a white male then you get no help for your small business. How charmingly raciest and sexist. So much for white privilege.

This is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. If you were to start a government program that only helped white male small business owners this would be on every headline in the nation.

Because you have to be a woman or a minority to qualify for the program. How did you not read that? Or are you one of those people who believes that its not raciest if it happens to whites and its not sexist if it happens to males?

Because the program shouldn't discriminate against anybody.

I think this is fine. I think people who choose not to bake a cake for an event they don't agree with is fine. I don't like bigotry but to each his own. It shows the fine line of hypocrisy in policies though. It's not okay for one group to discriminate against another... unless it's of a majority or you claim victim.

middle aged white guys won't get any help any time soon- that's just the way it is right now.
Soon we'll be paying more in taxes to give the money to everyone who isn't us.

Modern day slavery. I suggest buying a tractor and moving out into the sticks, and having as little to do with taxes and government as possible.

Actually there are other programs. There is the HUBZone program for businesses in underutilized business zones, there are Service-Disabled Veteran Owned programs, and Total Small business programs.

The government "sets aside" certain contracts for all the programs.

Did you know there are scholarship programs that are designated for white males who have no immediate familial connections?

Bunch of racists.

I think the poster is pointing out that people have privileges over another because of their race or gender. Basically because society has turned white privilege into minority privilege, further deepening the divide.

For private businesses that it totally ok in my book. But ADOT is a government agency that my tax dollars pay for. Therefore nobody should be excluded or given better treatment for their programs.

As hard as it is to believe, white males are being treated like minorities of days past. It's probably just all of the years of oppression minorities felt, that they should try and get back at whitey for what he has done.

I feel a lot of the racial flame fanning is out of spite. People are spiteful. Usually the worst kind.

I am not talking about other programs I am talking about this program. But to humor you a little the programs you mentioned are available to all individuals. And does not exclude anybody based on race or sex. This program does.

You stated if you were a white male you get no help for your small business, I was just showing you ways you actually can.

Do you own a small business?

Great advice. I have already done that! Its been a wonderful experience. I strongly urge more middle aged white guys and their families do the same while they still can. Best to be out and away from the cities before the big reset.

Are you trying to apply for a University?

I'd be more than happy to show you some scholarships for single, white males in their 20's.

That demographic is myself, and helped tremendously during my times at school.

My girlfriend also received a grant for going into nursing. She had to write a paper, sure, but the grant is only eligible for women! How sexist is that?

That's known as `discrimination`, which isn't the same thing as `racism` or `sexism`, although those things can lead to discrimination.

Here's an amazing book for anyone that likes to read, maybe you'll even understand why programs like this exist:

Arizona is just copying the federal model. Any project that receives FHWA funds has federal DBE requirements.
www.fhwa.dot.gov...

From my 15+ years of experience in the industry (including 5 years in AZ), the DBEs are often highly specialized consultants who are usually female owned. Public Involvement Professionals, Utility Relocation specialists, ROW acquisition and relocation agents, and Landscape Architect professionals are probably the 4 largest recipients of the DBE provisions. The federal requirement is usually that 10% of your contract value as the prime has to go to a DBE subconsultant and compliance is handled via a bidder/proposer penalty in most cases, on the bid side it is usually 5% (meaning your bid is escalated by 5% prior to being compared to other bidders) and on the proposal side there is a point system based on each component of the proposal, these are added up to tally each proposing firm's score... if 5 points are tied to the DBE requirement, you just miss out on those 5 points and damn well better knock the rest of the proposal out of the park or you'll lose.

I honestly get what you're saying and absolutely agree with you. Alaska doesn't do DBEs for non federal funded projects, and I'd vocally fight against any changes towards what AZ is doing. If your business can't survive and thrive without government assistance and artificial aids to your competitiveness, you don't deserve to be in business and should close shop.

This is probably a good thing.

Someone explain to me why nearly 100% of the CEOs of major corporations are white men. You would think in a more inclusive society there would be more women and minorities holding those positions. Of course, racism like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
