If the information you want is not publicly available, you can submit a FOIA request to the agency’s FOIA Office. The request simply must be in writing and reasonably describe the records you seek. Most federal agencies now accept FOIA requests electronically, including by web form, e-mail or fax. See the list of federal agencies for details about how to make a request to each agency and any specific requirements for seeking certain records.
What can I ask for under the FOIA? A FOIA request can be made for any agency record. You can also specify the format in which you wish to receive the records (for example, printed or electronic form). The FOIA does not require agencies to create new records or to conduct research, analyze data, or answer questions when responding to requests.

yeah, I have....
I found out I came to America under the Refugee Children Act, sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church
I had 5 half brothers who were all deceased from diseases & afflictions they were born with, from 1939 onward @1-2 year pauses
my birth mother was a slave labor, Lithuanian...and I was the only son given her maiden name (nerkeliunas) instead of a married last name (radzivizini)
I filed right exactly before the deadline and the restructuring of all the Federal Agencies...my folder/dossier was 31 pages of documents from Immigration & Justice Department
it was weird to find these facts after I was stationed in Germany, Nuremberg suburb named Furth
and the area Nerkeliante was forced to live was also around Bavaria, Munich, & sites East...
& Pegnitz, Bucherstrasse was my DPO Camp birth place, not more than 60 km. from where I was stationed as a G.I.
I was very fortunate to obtain all these records/documents at that time... because now it would be impossible to get releases of sensitive material from dysfunctional records departments now under the DHS authority
I sailed aboard SS General Langfit a converted Liberty Ship, was processed through Ellis Island at 2.5 years old...
I was tested for Citizenship & approved in 1957 @ Harrisburg PA, after residing in MI & WV previously.

I submitted the FOIA and it took about +~ 9 months to get a (free) return package from the Dept of Justice
