Are you kidding?

ATS doesn't say its a news outlet. There is no editor and editorial guidelines, only mods and a T&C. You can say whatever you want within the T&C because we are for opinions as much as facts.

LOL....ATS is a fake news outlet is a Faulty Comparison

Comparing one thing to another that is really not related, in order to make one thing look more or less desirable than it really is.

***UPDATE***

We have also removed some outlets from the list based on their constructive conversations with us, and we are adding others which are directly foreign-run.

www.propornot.com...

We strongly believe in the First Amendment rights to freedom of expression and freedom of the press. Diverse and independent media are vital to the health of free society. Non-profit and commercial, alternative and mainstream - all are critical to our democracy. Americans have the right to echo, repeat, be used by, and refer their audiences to Russian official and semi-official state media, including “fake news” propaganda - just as we have the right to analyze and highlight that, without fear or favor. This list was never intended to be “black”. This is NOT a list of “paid” or “knowing” propaganda sources. It is NOT an attempt to censor, blacklist, or tar anyone.

www.propornot.com...

But most importantly...ATS is no longer on that list
www.propornot.com...

In other words: ATS has been there, done that. WIth more credible clowns that this one...who probably just pinched the list before it was updated, so it actually spread fake news themselves as they ignored the retraction.

I am currently arguing the fact with people how ATS works and told them to read the terms and conditions here to back up the credibility of this site, the stories as we all know here are either proven or disproved by the members.

I dont think its just the news. They most likely are looking at all the

'fake trump threads'
and how the posters on this site are perceiving it to be real.

This site is a joke when it comes to real news with real posters communicating on real topics and issues.
I mean...just look,its sad.

Seriously?
ATS is a forum ffs, it's not an accredited media outlet.
Not like ATS has a correspondent at the white house press briefings.
List is dumb, but hey, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

First of all, we do not disseminate fake news.

The journalism and propaganda that we discuss here, is picked apart, dissected, examined under a black light, by those of us using the site correctly at any rate. The idea is, that if it has merit, stands up under significant scrutiny, then fair enough. If not, then it gets treated like the perverse control mechanism that all false information is.

The information ought to be posted here to be examined, but the thing we sometimes fail on here, and VERY much more regularly since the truth became something that no one wanted to hear anymore, is the actual examination. There can be no examination of a piece of journalism, unless all parties involved with that examination, are prepared to do so without bias, because unless they are, the examination will prove ineffective.

For example:

When the election season was upon us, one of the things that was sadly lacking from both of the eventual candidates to the presidency, was the truth. Hillary lied, and Donald lied. Donald lied, or was in outstanding levels of error, in more than seventy percent of his statements to the public. Yet, some people, falsely, have the impression that he is the most honest President yet, that his administration is the most transparent and so on. Its hogwash, bogus, does not stand up to an examination of the facts. And yet, if you state as much people will suggest that you must be a shill, or must be anti-this, or anti-that. They do not engage with your argument, they do not attempt to disprove the point made, they simply attack, because they cannot reason against the truth. But they can try to bury it.

This mindset is fundamentally incapable due to a lack of will, to cut the lies from the truth and hold only the truth in hand. If an individual would rather cling fiercely to a lie, because it is more comfortable to them than the truth, then no reasonable, rational, logical or valid examination of a set of information can be made by them. All that can happen, is they can choose whether the information appeals to them because it suits their pre-existing bias, or whether it does not appeal to them because it shoots holes in their world view so wide, that you could pilot a damned aircraft carrier through them.

THAT is the thing that needs to change. It is not the presence of information that does the most harm, but the lack of will to do the right thing with that information, to be honest, intelligent and to hold more rigidly to the facts than the fluff with which they are surrounded. That being said, if people refuse to resist the propaganda they are being fed, refuse to accept truth when it is placed before them, the danger is that ANY information will start to be accepted, just on the basis of how people FEEL about it, rather than because that information carries any intrinsic weight of truth.

These are difficult and trying times, but they are such because of what people do with information, not because the information exists.

This will mean little to anyone except me, but I found your comment insightful, yet almost accusatory.

I am one of those people that can't throw something away without trying to fix it first. Of course, that has my garage full of little projects that I started but had to abandon because I lacked replacement parts, was clueless of what to do with the mess I was looking at, but kept it, hoping someone will come along and with some good advice, and those that I just lost interest in, for now.

I had come in from my garage and was mentally chastising myself, just before reading your post. You now have me thinking to myself that I just may be one of the guilty ones.

What is hilarious is, that thread is linked to another site which presumably didn't make it.

How did ATS end up on the radar of these people? If they went searching for that particular story, they would see the source and inside edition listed above us. The one thing Inside Edition and ATS have in common is they just discuss news made in the media.

I agree with a lot of what you say.

To be fair though, fake news stories, deliberate or not, are brought here and are given a chance to survive/thrive long enough to be considered and shared elsewhere. The purpose for which a person would post one here could very well be to increase its exposure amongst those who may sympathize with said story. And that is the point, isn't it? No doubt that the more responsible members will do everything in their power to stamp out the legitimacy of the post, but that won't matter a lot of times. Because the bias harbored by the hard core sympathizers will not waiver. Those folks will push the story further. And maybe there are some naive minds out there that are open to entertain these stories as truth. Boom, now they've got one!

The objective is to spread this crap around, get eyeballs on it and hopefully convert some weak minds. Doesn't matter who thinks it's false. And while there are plenty of folks here who know better, I'm willing to make a wager that there are very many who don't, either by choice or pure ignorance.

My point is maybe these stories should not be allowed here in the first place. You seem to think that they should, to be examined more thoroughly. I would respectfully disagree because it does more harm than good as I see it. These things don't deserve to see the light of day. But hey, ATS is with you since it allows it to happen. So be it.

www.fakenewschecker.com...

This is an accurate description of much of ATS's user generated content. Because it does not exercise censorship, propaganda mills like InfoWars exploit it for their own ends. Although ATS members will do their best to expose hoaxes and lies, the bulk of the membership seems to favor unproven conspiracy theories. As a result, it is not a reliable source for actual news.

They then list thread titles they consider dubious:

I guess if you focus on the UFO/Alien/Woo that we love, then they are right. But if its about politics, we don't make the news, we copy/paste it to discuss.

ATS allows alt-media to use it as a platform. There are members who consistently link to a one particular cluster of media sites or another. We are, in effect, a combination of a multi-stream news network and a social network. You cannot deny that groups will use a variety of tactics, including sock puppets and cyber-bullying, to advance their agenda. It is disingenuous to claim that we are not "media."
