FBI Director Comey confirms probe on Russian meddling in US election and Trump Team links

FBI Director James Comey has today confirmed before the House Intelligence Committee that the FBI are conducting an investigation into Russia’s meddling in the presidential election and possible links between President Trump's administration , Mr Comey said it was a counterintelligence investigation.

FBI Director James Comey confirmed to the House Intelligence Committee on Monday that the FBI is investigating Russia’s meddling in the presidential election, including possible links between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
Comey described it as a “counterintelligence investigation” but said it will “also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed.” He noted that the FBI usually does not comment on active counterintelligence investigations but said he was authorized to do so in this case because of the extraordinary public interest.

Democrats top man on the panel , Adam Schiff , tweeted this out to President Trump before the proceedings got under way.

“Mr. President, the Russians hacked our election and interfered. No one disputes this now, but you. This is what is called 'fact,'” Schiff wrote in a series of tweets denouncing Trump's claim that his predecessor wiretapped Trump Tower. “The intelligence community concluded the Russians will interfere again. This is why full investigation is important to country. Please stop.”

Followed by....

“Your suggestion British wiretapped you & jape with Merkel are harming our relationships with key allies. This is called ‘collateral damage,’”

So Comey said nothing other than there is an investigation in progress. Kind of depressing. The wording in the first statement almost seemed like it stated there was a link, but actually it only stated there is an investigation on the link. I suppose the left will twist what he said and make it look like Comey said something he didn't. Then Trump will have to twist it way the other way and state there is no proof yet about any connection. I guess it will take years of investigation and causing turmoil in our society to unravel this.

Oh wait, this seems like a carrot dangling on a string. What is going on that we are steered away from seeing.

It proves nothing. All it states is public opinion is calling for a thorough investigation. Read it over and over till you can see that nothing is said in this at all. Evidently they have found no link at all yet, but they are keeping up the investigation to satisfy some people. I am not saying there is no link, only that they have not found anything yet.

Comey could say nothing other than confirming an investigation is in progress , he can't comment on an ongoing investigation.

Many people were denying that any investigation was even taking place.

Now that has been confirmed.

So they confirmed there is an investigation, ok so what.
Until anything is proven, this entire hearing was all for special effects .

Lets not soon forget the information which came to light, the level of corruption under the DNC's every breath. From podesta to pay to play or giving out debate questions before hand....

Nonetheless, if there is a connection between Trump and the comrades, we need to know and prosecute those involved to the full extent.

Earlier in the hearing, the chairman of the committee contradicted an assertion from Trump by saying that there had been no wiretap of Trump Tower. But Rep. Devin Nunes, a California Republican whose committee is one of several investigating, said that other forms of surveillance of Trump and his associates have not been ruled out.

Comey just confirmed that the Russians did not change any votes in any of the precincts that one of the Senators went through. And Comey also said that Gucifier has not been confirmed to be a Russian Hacker. The only influence the Russians might have had on the election is IF they were the one's that turned over the stolen emails to Wikileaks. Those emails have never been proven to be fake. The information in the emails is one of the main reasons the Presidential Election went to Trump.

Those aren't the questions that were asked and answered. The questions asked by Nunes that were answered "no" weren't about "influence of the election" but rather manipulation of vote tallies. This is nothing but conflation that amounts to a straw man argument.

There have been no serious claims that Russians hacked voting systems that I'm aware of.

I suspect that on some level you understand this but you're playing along, rather disingenuously, because you want it to be taken to mean that there is no evidence of Russian influnence/attempted influence of the 2016 US Presidential Election.

I bet Comey will say that the investigation(s) are "ONGOING...Stay Tuned." Just like the Clinton Foundation and Weiner/Hillary investigations. By the time he's finished, everyone will be focused on other things.
