Less and less comfortableness
more and more dread.
Who wants to live forever,
sometimes I just want to wake up dead.

The pain and suffering in the world
form blisters on my conscience.
Seared by despair my soul is wounded.
I retreat to preserve what hope I have left.

The thin skin of denial
is scarred by the knowledge
of carnage and destruction
to the helpless and innocent.

They say only the strong survive
but what will they inherit,
a world destroyed by greed and avarice
or will the meek inherit the earth?

If evolution is driven by the need to survive,
where are the changes necessary to preserve life?
Why is enlightenment in constant famine,
why do we continue to kill and destroy?

Moral and ethical behavior
appear to be lepers
kept outside the walled city,
the citizens unwilling to touch them.

Even while dead minds and cold hearts
stalk our streets in disguise,
pretending to be alive,
they are the walking dead.

Is there an ember still alive in the cold fire?
Will the breath of life still fan its flame?
Will the earth once again bloom
and fountains of living water spring forth again?

Time will tell!

Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment. The cycles of life surely give reason for optimism.

Peace.

Thanks as always! I have been absent for awhile dealing with health issues but I am back to feeling better. I have to admit the whole election and political issues really acted as a damper to creativity as well. I hope things have been well with you my friend! Peace

Time

Fear not your destiny in the Embers of Time

Nor you’re placing of self at the end of the line

Yearn less for that which calls for me and mine

Then patience and truth will beget The End of Time

As the moon crosses over the finishing line

The stark sun will set for the final time

Then Jesus will break crosses and kill swine

After Rumi indulges his divine wine

I'm so glad you are feeling better and back to writing! I look forward to more when you have the time and are inspired enough. I'm ok I guess. Hanging in there like most folks.
