In late 60's Britain the " Mod Culture " was in decline. The youth of Britain wanted something new. This resulted in the birth of The " Skinheads "

Skinheads took the music of Jamaica to their hearts and it became their music. Skinheads where form both white and black races and they partied together. When a West Indian family held a " Blues Party " in their home there where as many white as well as black faces, who both sang and danced together.

A few of the most popular labels for Reggae and Ska music are shown below

The first record of this genre i purchased.

A few other which i enjoyed from that era

And for any romantics out there.

And for the more " Risque"

Unfortunately in more recent years the " Skinhead Culture " has been hi-jacked by the neo-nazi movement. I knew it in more innocent times.

Hope you have enjoyed. Please feel free to add anything of this genre that you wish.

In my whole childhood, every Single blessed Sunday..Neapolitan ice cream for dessert, for Years. My parents prolly had some strange addiction. Even to this day,if my hubby calls from the store, and says they only have Neapolitan i say leave it out and get Ola Magnum icies.

Yes, John Holt came along a few years later, and UB40 much later still of course.

I did have at one time John Holts album " 5000 volts of Holt " but it's long been lost.

Glad you like the thread. I have added a few more tracks you may ( or not ) enjoy.

While I love 3rd wave ska I have really never ventured into the skinhead and mod waves of ska. This is a neat look into the history of where the sound and styling started thank you.
