I just want to drink sometimes
Make it all about me
Even though I try so hard
Your heart is in my memory
Seven billion people on my mind
How can I keep them all inside?
I am not the Saviour of humanity
Even if I tried, I'd fail for my empathy

I have worked so hard
All by myself

That's what my parents taught me
Nothing isn't even for free
"Baby boomers, you're to blame"
By your own words, you're put to shame
If you created everything
The Entitlement Generation has you to thank
If what you say is true
Then my problems are yours, too

I have worked so hard
All by myself
I did it all myself
All by myself

The Entitlement Generation is not what you say
Grow your kids in a dish then throw them away
Out on the street at 15, never even knowing the way

Put them down, put them down
"You're so deluded"
Put them down, put them down
"You're so secluded"
Put them down, put them down
"You're so polluted"

But they owe to serve you, each and every single day
And hypocrisy is all you gave

I have worked so hard
All by myself
I did it all myself
And no one else

If you read my other poem titled "Return the Favor", you will find that its sentiment seems anti-liberal as well.

Our emotions, our thoughts, they're too grand to be boiled down to political affiliations, in my humble opinion.

So write what you wish and how you wish and do it well. I'll be by to flag it.

Let me try....

Love is the poor man's fantasy
Unreality the rich man's goal
Theft and plunder the expediency of both
Isn't America fun?

Great poem and song lyrics. It not only has depth but it contains words and lines that can be sung.

I met the most beautiful woman in the world while I was poor. Her average thinking (only in the eyes of anyone foolish enough to consider her thinking average - a social mistake) is far outshined by the pragmatism found in her abilities to take care of me and my loose ends because of her love for me.

I think true love can only be found when someone has nothing yet to offer. She went from liking how I looked and sounded to loving my heart and mind. No money at the time.

I think pragmatism is not found only in thinking and age. If that were true, I would have pragmatism in spades, based more on thinking - but I was never allowed to be a child... So how old am I, really?

But I do have pragmatism now. She showed me that I had worth. Now I return the favor by helping her to know and do anything she wants to do in this life.

Never mistake disillusionment with pragmatism. Age narrows vision and clouds the judgment of even the most experienced thinker if one is not wise, even as no age and no experience is the origin of the ignorant. Always keep one eye single and the other scanning the environment. Stay grounded, but never biased. Acknowledge evil, but search for that which is good.

It's not easy at first; but with practice, it becomes the core of one's own personality.

It is in fact based on a couple of songs that I wrote. I have been transforming some of my work to be a new work to share here. It dawned on me last night that I could consider some of these experimental works as "Anthem Poetry".

Thanks midicon!

Interesting observation, thanks for sharing. I am pragmatic for many reasons and as a result of many life experiences which have served me well and put me in a very comfortable place which I hope to remain in, current political climate and state of the world aside. I stopped giving advice though when I realized that my reality was just that, my reality....is that wisdom? I think that my reply to anyone who doubted my sincerity would be to quote Oscar Wilde:

“I am not young enough to know everything.”

I don't doubt your sincerity.

But you make the mistake of thinking that you're not still young even now.

ETA - you will notice the word "if" in my previously quoted statement, I hope. It has meaning.

I'm trying but writing something humor based isn't as easy as it sounds! I need a topic so that I can create a character and then evolve a story line around that.

I may need a couple more days for this one.
