YONGSAN GARRISON, Seoul, Republic of Korea --

The U.S. Army, after coordination with the Republic of Korea Armed Forces and the U.S. Air Force, has begun the process to permanently station a Gray Eagle Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) company at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea.

The stationing of this company, which will be assigned to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division, directly supports the U.S. Army’s strategic plan to add one Gray Eagle company to each division in the Army.

The UAS adds significant intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to U.S. Forces Korea and our ROK partners.

Some of the rival media are trying to portray this as some aggressive or hostile move against North Korea because it puts them in striking distance, as if there were not dozens of other various way to strike NK if we wanted too. Truth is its simply about making sure every company in the Army that is deployed has these aerial assets in their inventory when they need them.

The Gray Eagle is produced by General Atomics for the Army as an upgrade to the MQ1-Predator
