INDIANAPOLIS — Vice President Mike Pence routinely used a private email account to conduct public business as governor of Indiana, at times discussing sensitive matters and homeland security issues.

Emails released to The Indianapolis Star, part of the USA TODAY Network, in response to a public records request show Pence communicated via his personal AOL account with top advisers on topics ranging from security gates at the governor’s residence to the state’s response to terror attacks across the globe. In one email, Pence’s top state homeland security adviser relayed an update from the FBI regarding the arrests of several men on federal terror-related charges.

In fact, Pence's personal account was hacked last summer.

What are you talking about, no one's gotten in trouble for it. That's why everyone took a hard line on it to begin with.

While the Democrats were saying it's fine and not a big deal it set the standard going forward.

I say prosecute or fire anyone who tries to hide from the freedom of information act.

This crap is really bringing the site down. First the fake news that Sessions, who I despise, lied. Now this.

It's just getting really old. Crying wolf is great and all, but what about real problems with this administration like the crackdown on weed? That's something we need to be talking about and protesting. States rights. Instead we're seeing the left pushing crap that doesn't really matter to real people.

Oh what the hell, lock'em all up!

I bet if they looked at more government officials, they'll find out there's many more that have done the same thing. It's probably done more out of convenience and negligence than criminal intent. Since the spotlight is now on Trump's administration, they're all going to be under the microscope.

The best part? He was hacked with a poorly worded scam email.

Oh, he was using AOL as well.

You got jail!

Here's the email that compromised his AOL account:

pbs.twimg.com...

That was sent to people in his email address book.

I love the subject line..."Nefarious News!!!" With THREE exclamation points!

The fact that Pence is now the Vice President, and that this happened months ago (but was never disclosed) is beyond unacceptable.

I want to know if any of his emails contained classified information! If he's using a private email account for government business, those emails belong to the people.

Release the emails!

It might make him a hypocrite as it relates to his statements on Hillary's email issues, but unless its proven that he somehow failed to comply with relevant Indiana state law on the issue, which doesn't prohibit a public official from using a private email account, this otherwise isn't much of a story.

Do we have to keep going over the same stuff? There is nothing wrong with using a "private" server for work related emails.......

The problem during election season (months ago) was that one of the candidates used a private server to send CLASSIFIED emails.

These kinds of post just show the OP has zero knowledge of how "the Internet" works, or how business gets done across the planet, or is trolling the forums.

He didn't "INTEND" any harm. So he's good. Hillary set the standards...sorry.

Yes, it's not illegal per-say...it all comes down to whether the emails he used that address for contained information that was classified in some way. Sensitive information should not be sent through an AOL email address.

Dude, even *I* use two factor authentication on my email account. It's sad when I'm more security aware than our elected officials.

Sorry, no intent for harm. It's a non-factor and a witch-hunt.

There is no law that says that Pence couldn't use his private E=mail in that state when he was governor. He broke no laws.

Hillary broke laws when she used her private server. Serious laws.

They are so "sensitive" yet they are being released and published by fake news mongers?

Seems legit!

Well...if anything was classified you can blame Obama for it hitting the net, or his administration.

In an odd twist, Obama signed an EO stating that:

Upon the execution of a non-disclosure
agreement prescribed by the Information Security
Oversight Office or the Director of National
Intelligence, and absent disqualifying conduct as
determined by the clearance granting official, a duly
elected or appointed Governor of a State or territory,
or an official who has succeeded to that office under
applicable law, may be granted access to classified
information without a background investigation in
accordance with the implementing directive for this
order. This authorization of access may not be further
delegated by the Governor to any other person.

Executive Order

So he could have had access to classified info and had it without even having to get a clearance check...talk about a loophole!

Now IF he had classified info is a whole other story because the grantor of said info would be responsible, under this EO, for that information being disseminated outside of scope...kinda like a handler. The major loophole comes in when you have states that don't require you to use a state email for anything...like the state Pence was Governor of...

Anywho...had any of these emails been damning I am pretty sure we would have seen them at this point....so continue on with whatever agenda there is to grasp at straws and push hate...

Got proof there's a law she can't use a private server?

It's the content of the emails that may or may not have caused a law to be broken.

She sent E-mails that she shouldn't have sent on the private server. She resigned her job as SOS to avoid prosecution, that is what they do in cases like that when someone does something wrong. Hillary broke the law. As Secretary of State she is not above the law at the time.

Yep she retained classified information that wasn't turned over. That's a violation of law.

That's the major issue here. HRC KNEW what she was doing was illegal. You don't get where you are in government without having a smidgen of taint.

And yes...I just used the word taint.
