As for Spicer and his meeting, I would have refused to let him look at my phone unless it was part of an official investigation with the proper warrants for searching my private property.

Precisely why this story is full of fake....as a staff of any Whitehouse head you sign everything away. There isn't a need to check their physical phone because they can pull their records. You think someone would flush their career and any chance of ever gaining security clearance for life just to leak that a meeting about a leak happened? Just dump years of college and striving to get to a point where you are a staffer at the WH to junk it all for a leak like this?

Come on people...wake up!!!

Ridiculous story.

We'll see. Chances are that this story will just drop off with no follow through and we'll never know if it was real or not. Though I'd wager it is. There is more logic on the side of it being true than false. But hey, if I'm wrong let it be known that I don't mind admitting it.

I don't have a problem with leaks that expose corruption. I have a problem with leaks that put lives at risk, though, regardless of who they come from.

So I don't have a problem with leaks that expose an administration's, either side of the aisle, corruption.

Oh wow! Okay, Shamrock6, I took a break from this discussion, but now I am back. This post of yours has really surprised and pleased me.

But I would have serious problems with a leak from, say, the intelligence community that reveals an agent's personal details or something.

oh. There I was, all jubilant (seriously! Believe or not, my heart felt warmed and like I'd managed to avoid some mess !

And so, I posted, with a star!!! And then, I see that it was disingenuous.

LOLL!!!!

This entire thread has become very entertaining indeed.

And enlightening. Because we are ATS. We expose fake news.

So...you're upset that I don't support leaks that put, say, an intelligence operative's life at risk for the sake of political gain?

Expose corruption all you want, just don't turn those at the pointy end of the spear into your pawns to do so. If that concept rankles your nose, think that says more about you than it does about me.

Not really sure what you're getting at, if that isn't it.

I will tell you that right now, right at this moment, I am utterly exhausted. I am out of words, out of ammo, out of hope, and completely demoralized.

That's what I'm getting at. It's what (in my opinion) much of our country is feeling right now. Sean Spicer included.
We none of us are safe from this Bannon-Trump coups machine.

All the same, thanks for asking.
It's nice to know that someone is listening.

Meh. People are exhausted because they're working themselves into a frenzy over each and every last little thing that happens, ever.

Like this.

Right?

Yep. The Russia thing is real. Sadly, many people who think, with pride, that they listen to and read 'news' are misguided about that. And now there are deplorable people telling them those are the ONLY places that matter, and to NOT READ ANYONE ELSE'S NEWS!!!

*shudders*

BuzzyWigs, please take care of yourself. I mean that with all sincerity. You sound over-the-top paranoid and agitated.

Our president has a very qualified and superb cabinet (if they could ever all get approved) and he is a highly capable and reasonable man with common sense and a deep patriotic love of The American People. His staff are optimistic and amazed at his energy and stoked about the policies he wants to implement.

His political ideology may be different from yours, but he's a good man. Everything will be fine if the left can get their craziness under control and work with this administration in positive ways.

Aww... That's sweet. And you know what? I believe you actually think that!

His staff are optimistic and amazed at his energy and stoked about the policies he wants to implement.

Says who?

he is a highly capable and reasonable man with common sense and a deep patriotic love of The American People.

Erm....no.

He is a fraud.
You are a sweetie, and I hope he sends you a postcard someday.

The thing is: we are all screwed. You have fallen for a pack of lies, and are now trusting male humans who are beyond redemption in terms of well-intentioned behavior.

I do mean that in all sincerity. When one looks at today's posts, especially, you seem extremely distraught and agitated. I wish I could assure you of some things, but I can't right now.

Male humans?

Do you see how that "sounds"?

Let us help you help yourself. Start with one thing that has sent you over the edge regarding Trump. Name just one thing that has you so paranoid, and maybe some of us can ease your mind.....or maybe we might learn something, too.

When Trump Voters Say They “Suffered For 8 Years Under Obama,” Here’s The Perfect Response

You all Trumpers. There is a list of questions that so far no one on ATS has dared to attempt to answer. So, I am offering them to you.

I wanted to look back over the last 8 years and ask you a few questions. Since much of the rhetoric before Obama was elected was that he would impose Sharia Law, Take Away Your Guns, Create Death Panels, Destroy the Economy, Impose Socialism and, since you will agree that NONE of this came to pass, I was wondering: Why have you suffered so?

So let me ask:

You ready?
Okay. Here we go:

Gays and Lesbians can now marry and enjoy the benefits they had been deprived of. Has this caused your suffering?

If so, HOW?

When Obama took office, the Dow was 6,626. Now it is 19,875. Has this caused your suffering?

See how it works? Well....since I really don't expect you will read the questions, let alone answer them, I will just truncate the rest. If you want to share with us how you have suffered since Obama, NOW is the time to do it. So:

We had 82 straight months of private sector job growth – the longest streak in the history of the United States. Has this caused your suffering?

Especially considering where the economy was when he took over, an amazing 11.3 million new jobs were created under President Obama (far more than President Bush). Has this caused your suffering?

Obama has taken Unemployment from 10% down to 4.7%. Has this caused your suffering?

Homelessness among US Veterans has dropped by half. Has this caused your suffering?

Obama shut down the US secret overseas prisons. Has this caused your suffering?

President Obama has created a policy for the families of fallen soldiers to have their travel paid for to be there when remains are flown home. Has this caused your suffering?

We landed a rover on Mars. Has this caused your suffering?

He passed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Has this caused your suffering?

Uninsured adults has decreased to below 10%: 90% of adults are insured – an increase of 20 Million Adults. Has this caused your suffering?

People are now covered for pre-existing conditions. Has this caused your suffering?

Insurance Premiums increased an average of $4,677 from 2002-2008, an increase of 58% under Bush. The growth of these insurance premiums has gone up $4,145 – a slower rate of increase. Has this caused your suffering?

Obama added Billions of dollars to mental health care for our Veterans. Has this caused your suffering?

Consumer confidence has gone from 37.7 to 98.1 during Obama’s tenure. Has this caused your suffering?

He passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Has this caused your suffering?

His bi-annual Nuclear Summit convinced 16 countries to give up and destroy all their loose nuclear material so it could not be stolen. Has this caused your suffering?

He saved the US Auto industry. American cars sold at the beginning of his term were 10.4M and upon his exit 17.5M. Has this caused your suffering?

The deficit as a percentage of the GDP has gone from 9.8% to 3.2%. Has this caused your suffering?

The deficit itself was cut by $800 Billion Dollars. Has this caused your suffering?

Obama preserved the middle class tax cuts.

Has this caused your suffering?

Obama banned solitary confinement for juveniles in federal prisons. Has this caused your suffering?

He signed Credit Card reform so that rates could not be raised without you being notified. Has this caused your suffering?

He outlawed Government contractors from discriminating against LGBT persons.Has this caused your suffering?

He doubled Pell Grants. Has this caused your suffering?

Abortion is down. Has this caused your suffering?

Violent crime is down. Has this caused your suffering?

He overturned the scientific ban on stem cell research. Has this caused your suffering?

He protected Net Neutrality. Has this caused your suffering?

Obamacare has extended the life of the Medicare insurance trust fund (will be solvent until 2030). Has this caused your suffering?

President Obama repealed Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Has this caused your suffering?

He banned torture. Has this caused your suffering?

He negotiated with Syria to give up its chemical weapons and they were destroyed. Has this caused your suffering?

Solar and Wind Power are at an all time high. Has this caused your suffering?

High School Graduation rates hit 83% – an all time high. Has this caused your suffering?

Shall we continue?

Corporate profits are up by 144%. Has this caused your suffering?

He normalized relations with Cuba. Has this caused your suffering?

Reliance on foreign oil is at a 40 year low. Has this caused your suffering?

US Exports are up 28%. Has this caused your suffering?

He appointed the most diverse cabinet ever. Has this caused your suffering?

He reduced the number of troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Has this caused your suffering?

Yes, he killed Osama Bin Laden and retrieved all the documents in his possession for analysis.Perhaps THIS caused your suffering?

From an objective standpoint it would appear that the last eight years have seen some great progress and we were saved from a financial collapse. Things are not perfect. Things can always be better. We are on much better footing now than we were in 2008.

I look forward to understanding what caused you to suffer so much under Obama these last eight years.”

I triple dog dare ya, readers....answer how ANY of that has "caused your suffering." !!!!

Sean Spicer did what he needed to do. There are harmful LEAKS taking place, or else the WH is bugged.

Sean Spicer had the WH counsel advising him before he proceeded. The phones that were checked were government-issued phones. Any personal phones that were checked, were voluntarily presented. Otherwise, they were not checked.

There's no such thing as a harmful leak. It's the next best thing to actual transparency.

The only people who care about leaks are people who have something to hide.

Compare the country when Bush left, the Republican conservative to what Obama the liberal democrat left.
Obama the liberal wins easily.
People forget that
I say Trump will leave us closer to Bush that to Obama
And that’s scary

Cost my sister her credit rating and her house when her kid got sick after the ACA cost her the health plan she had before (you know one of those many plans that didnt meet some arbitrary set of standards) Then when she had a kid get sick it cost her thousands of dollars before the plan she could afford kicked in.

End result bad credit and had to move out of her house because she could not afford it anymore..

I would say that is fairly significant suffering for her and her family.

Yea yea I know.. .its not his fault... he sat in the big boy chair its his fault... "the buck stops here"... When/IF trump screws up like the ACA it will be on him as well.

"But bush" was never a conservative... republican yes conservative no...

ETA: A large number of republicans are not conservative in the classic sense, much like the Democrats are not liberal in the classic sense.

If there were a real leak at the Whitehouse....you can bet there would be an investigation. They don't need to ask for employee phones...these are covered by their hiring paperwork....they can take them. That's beside the point that they wouldn't need the device to discern who leaked anything....their phone records would also be readily available based on contract.

Everyone with half a brain who works in a sensitive position carries two phones, usually secretly for the second phone so they can conduct business off the record. What makes you think they wouldn't leak with the second phone, and hand over the known phone?

The reason I asked "You really want to go here?" is because Obama actually promised "transparent government" as a big part of his platform, and his Presidency had become one of the most secreted while locking down FOIA requests to the worst it has ever been.

And Obama utterly failed at it. I'm not so sure that's the standard we should be comparing to.

If an administration is honest, transparent, and making a good faith effort the internal employees aren't going to feel compelled to act.

In the US your employer can demand you hand over your phone for inspection, or any other private documents/devices you might have if they wrote it into your contract and you signed it. Most places working with sensitive information have a similar clause. Failure to hand it over would likely get you fired, and be used as proof against you if they file a lawsuit to sue you for damages.

That's why people carry two phones. They can't make you hand over what they don't know about... and for now they can't strip search you to find a second phone.
