In other words, Trump's administration is going to enforce the existing laws that neither Obama nor the Dems bothered to change even when they had the majority in congress.

I guess it's time to move to Canada, British Columbia.

Trump knows that the legalization of pot in some states was part of the effort to dumb down and liberalize society.

I'm not saying he's right---so please don't strike---but I think he's thinking he has to turn the clock back ten years to make sense of things.

Which is a not a good claim cause I know many trump supporters who use it. They weren't liberalized and if that is Trump's argument, then its pretty flawed.

He would be wise to legalize it and win a few liberals over. If he really wants to make peace, this is the route he should take. Especially with all the medical benefits that has surfaced surrounding this plant.

Follow the money!! Put the real criminals "pot smokers" in corporate owned prisons, and sell more drugs for the pharmaceutical companies. Why am I not surprised. You know how important it is, we have to get our priorities straight.

Quite simply: The Trump administration supports for-profit prisons. If prisons are to be profitable, they require prisoners. Making a relatively harmless drug illegal allows them to fill the prisons with relatively well behaved prisoners. QED.

Definitely a step too far. This administration is on the verge of a legal meltdown. Ironically, they won't be able to hire enough lawyers because of a prior Executive Order!

Is this not to be expected?

Trumps entire presidency has been about rolling back the clock, returning America to a falsely perceived period which was apparently better than the one in which it finds itself today. This is nonsense of course, since the problem with the period in which America finds itself has nothing to do with time, but rather more to do with greed, poverty, and the power of the few over the many.

This was always on the cards, along with the destruction of trans and LGBT rights and protections under the law, the deregulation of banks so that they can once again play fast and loose with the money invested in them and deposited into them by customers, the deregulation of the energy industry so that they no longer have to be seen to do the right thing by the planet they are raping for their fix of power and wealth.

@ Trump voters:

Why is anyone who voted Trump surprised or angry? This is what you all wanted, is it not? Ten steps backward for every half step your nation has made in progress since the eighties? Because make no mistake, contrary to whatever maladjusted thoughts they may have planted in your head about things, that IS what you voted for, that IS what you have made possible. These are the consequences of voting for far right lunatics. I hope very much that lessons have already been learned from this, because if you do it again the next time, you are going to be the member with which your nation will be shafted.

Trump favors "state's rights" when it comes to bathrooms, but Federal power when it comes to marijuana. It's all about the prisons.

Not to mention marijuana only leads to other illegal drugs because it is illegal itself. Make it legal and it would no longer be a gateway drug.

They most likely needed more data on the benefits of legal marijuana before they could just change federal law.

This is actually true. Recent studies show 100% of people who snort marijuana regularly will kill all of their friends. Or they would, if the subjects hadn't also killed the researchers!

I hope he's stupid enough to light the fuse.

Why? Nobody is going to do anything other then cry on social media.

Tons of people are about to be out of jobs, and there is a LOT of money invested in this burgeoning industry. Shutting it off will have VERY dire consequences. Especially since Trump is supposed to be a bringer of jobs not destroyer of them.

Marijuana never has been a gateway drug. Illegal or otherwise.

The medical benefits for MJ has been known for decades. If there were none then the government wouldn't have bothered getting a patent on the chemicals in MJ.
