there is a long 8 minute or so video I saw.. the kids, one kid in particular, that bum rushed him and knocked him over the bushes. Then the 3 or 4 jumped in, that is when he pulled his side arm

Yes. It is and I have the right to defend it. Period. You can let people walk all over you if you choose and whine to the police when you're attacked....but there's reason they say "Seconds count". By the time the cops get there, they'll be calling the Coroner, not arresting the people who killed you. They'll be long gone.

I someone murders your family or vandalises your home...you call the police.

You'd take the time to pick up a phone, rather than defend your family?
You honestly expect the government/police to protect you, rather than take responsibility for your own safety in dangerous situations?

Looking at video of it, it looks more like a negligent discharge than a warning shot.

Which made me give even less of a # about him.

I had an incident here in Texas with someone creeping on my property. I called the cops, they didn't find anyone as they left before the cops showed up. The officer literally told me "next time this happens, you do what you have to do to protect your family, then call us... Just make sure they are on your property" I can guarantee next time, I'll have the person detained or maimed before calling the police.

Isn't it illegal in Florida to fire a gun during a non life threatening incident? Isn't it something like 7 years in prison? Even if it was unintentionally, or even to scare someone?
If were anyone else they would be in jail, accidental or not the weapon should not have been drawn.

Edit: I don't mean the term urban youth in a racist way. It just so happens that urban youth are almost never white. Sometimes they are though. Something is really wrong with the culture of youth growing up in urban areas. I'd say the same thing if they were white.

Did the kid do or say something that warranted arrest, or did he just offend the cop with words?

If he didn't break a law, did his friends have the right to defend him?

Did the off duty cop identify himself as a cop?

Why didn't he call a uniformed officer first?

Why conceal a handgun inside your waistband and walk into a confrontation? is he a gang banger?

He wouldn't have almost killed the kid if he had a holster, like a responsible gun owner.

Too many questions.

I don't think he will keep his job, but we will see.
