Alright folks, its time gain to get n update on the Chinese progress on their first indigenous aircraft carrier. The structure is closing in on completion. I'd speculate it will be launched in a year for final fitting out. The rumors are the commissioning will be in 2020. I have my doubts, but I have been wrong before and will be again.

This carrier is an improvement on the varyag class but does NOT have catapults. The Chinese have been stating they want cats in the next carrier. We will see if they get it in the third or, as I suspect, it will be the fourth.

Pix in the link.

Beats the Empire of the Rising Sun ofc. If the rest of the world is allowed to build one why can't others?

Let me ask you this,
Would you feel comfortable sitting
in the cockpit of a Chinese space capsule
ready for launch?

Are you comfortable with their alloys
and rivets? Pirated Goods?
How long does a Chinese toolkit last?
Do you feel secure with their semiconductors?

Maybe you have full confidence in their assembly
line quality control systems?
You have every right to your own choices.
Bon voyage!

Tool kit? I got a nice set of Chinese made XZN Triple Square bits overnight on Amazon for $14, they saved my bacon.

What's not to like?

China can make high quality stuff, but their products have been ordered with design issues built in by businesses that resell them in the USA. These big American companies want repeated sales, they want things to fall apart after the warrantee is up. The Chinese supply what the buyers want, it has nothing to do with what we the consumer want for life expectancy..

If you know where to order from in China, you can get some really good stuff. I used to know someone who knew who to order from, he was a big wheel in a tool company from over in Taiwan.

Apparently, the domestic corporations that used to make these things think it's all fine and dandy to now export all the manufacturing jobs abroad, and import the now much cheaper, and cheaply made goods.

Large ones all round at the club to celebrate the stock price jump and bonus.....yaaaaaay!

When they can do blue water cyclic flight ops, let me know. They are a long way from that.

If it was the same people they will hide technology. The true power of capitalism is competition as long as no one cheats. To bad US is the one who always cheat other countries through assassination and war.

If you give technology to two people knowledgeable enough to build something out of it. They will never give you the same product. We got here US trying to absorb every white country through threats and assassination. You wonder why Canada, Aussies and other European countries keep relying on US arms sales. It is total BS. Even the EU is losing its own self sustainable military hardwares to F-35 since the Eurofighter. Canada and Australia already lost their own military industry for the most part. The only EU country that still has their own proper military hardwares is the French and they are losing the game.

Here its the ineptness of the Government that is still stuck in the 1960.s
Last major arms manufacturer went looking out of country to get business. And dont get me started on our aeronautical political history.

I wouldn't feel comfortable going to a restaurant there and having a meal, or hell even just walking around outside in one of the urban areas of China.

So while I broadly agree with your point, I don't think the West should just ignore China's ambition of becoming a regional power. It's easy enough to ridicule now, but simply ignoring and ridiculing and underestimating China is a recipe for waking up a couple decades later to a functional Chinese carrier fleet.

Nowadays when people think of products from china their minds turn to that last piece of crap you got off ebay that lasted 3 hours before self destructing but most of that stuff is knock off stolen/pirated/back engineered products that they copied but then use inferior components they cobbled together in their garden shed

China does have some good quality products, just take a look around your house and you will find a lot of your branded products are made in places like china

heres 10 American products that are not quite as American as you might think:
www.businessinsurance.org...

heres a good read, its a few years out of date, china actually have even more then this now:
www.webhostingtalk.com...

just a quick google gives me results showing that almost every major company has their hand in the Chinese market and are happy to use Chinese items/components which we are all happy to buy for stupidly inflated prices

So to answer your question, strap me in baby I'm off to the moon

I am a longtime "student' of Chinese philosophy,
and I do not underestimate their 5000 + year
culture. I hold the history and knowledge of China
in the highest respect. I mean that.

However, cheap junk is cheap junk.
Dishonest software is dishonest.
Pirated goods are stolen goods.
Rivers running red, yellow, and otherwise are poison.
The air quality is horrendous.

If their leaders have no disregard for their own people,
to these degrees, what in god's name do you think they
have in store for you?
