Putin wants to conquer Ukraine and return it to Russia. Ukraine was part of the Russian empire before it became a Soviet republic when the Soviet Union was created out of the Russian empire in 1922.

Trump can give Putin the green light to invade Ukraine, then arm the Ukrainian insurgency with American and German and French and British and Swedish weapons.

Russian army would be devastated in Ukraine suffering tens of thousands of KIA. Putin would be overthrown by the Russian people and Trump can install an American friendly government in Russia.

"Trump should lure Putin to destruction"

No,not at all.

Allowing any situation to happen, that kills many, many people, should never happen.

All other options should be looked at and tried before taking the option to kill people.

And then someone should lure our mil-ind complexes in a locked cell, maybe (re-)use Vlad as a bait? They seem to like him... very much.

Pretty sure if Russia were given a green light to invade it would be over in a matter of days. No matter how many weapons we gave them.

A new RAND Corporation study suggests that Russian forces could overrun NATO’s Baltic states in less than three days. Moreover, if Moscow chose to mount an invasion of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the United States and NATO would not have any good options with which to respond.

RAND came to its “unambiguous” conclusion after a series of wargames it conducted between the middle of 2014 and early 2015. “As currently postured, NATO cannot successfully defend the territory of its most exposed members,” reads the study. “Across multiple games using a wide range of expert participants in and out of uniform playing both sides, the longest it has taken Russian forces to reach the outskirts of the Estonian and/or Latvian capitals of Tallinn and Riga, respectively, is 60 hours.”

Ukraine is not a Baltic state. If Ukraine wanted to call up reserves their military could match all of Russia's standing army. On top of that Ukraine has been fighting a war for almost three years. So there's not many green troops left. On the other side a third of Russia's military is made up of conscripts that only serve a year including training.

I think if Russia truly wanted to they could take Ukraine. But it won't be an easily won prize.

Wtf is wrong with you bro. That is a horrible idea and good start of wwIII. I really hope your idea does not fall inline with the powers that be. Are you begging for armagedon??? And I will not put the cheers emoticon on this one because you are stupid

Yea they're not a Baltic states but if Russia could overrun those states which would be defended by the US and NATO forces and loose within 60 hours, you don't think they could do the same to Ukraine?

Russia is stuck in Syria. Russia can't even beat a bunch of Qaeda dudes let alone Ukraine which has a population a third of Russia and heavily armed with western weapons via Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia which are NATO countries.

I would prefer that he works with Russia on matters of mutual interest. Such as defeating radical Wahhabi Islamism, a threat to both the West and Russia.

Russia are doing a good job of that with their Syrian allies but the process could sped up significantly.

Elections in Europe this year will see a number of Russia-friendly Anti-EU governments come to power, so America should lead the charge on that front, instead of being isolated with only a bunch of Fascists in Eastern Europe to call allies on the continent.

Not really sure I would make fun of Russia not being able to handle "a bunch of Qaeda dudes" like you put it....how did we do?

It would take time for NATO to mobilize a defense force to those countries. If Article V were actually invoked due to Russia invading the Baltics then odds are the front line would be Poland with the hope of pushing back in to the Baltic states. Ukraine is much different beast militarily. And like I said, at this point they're troops are seasoned while a large portion of Russia's available units are not. That right there makes a big difference.

OK if that's the case, why haven't they taken Crimea back?

For one they're kind of in the middle of a civil war. Also, there's the fact that Putin threatened to nuke them if they tried to reclaim Crimea.

If Russia really wanted the Ukraine all they really have to do is call up their Iran/Shia buddy and let Hamas and Hizbullah stir up trouble.

So Putin can ride to the rescue.

The places with majority Russian population are.

Donbass, Lughansk, Odessa.

About 60% of the country if you add up all the others.

So you're telling me that a military that can't put down the pro Russian rebels would be able to beat back the full force of the second most powerful military in the world?

The idea put forth in the OP is ridiculous. If the US were to give a green light to Russia to invade Ukraine it would most certainly result in disaster. Would Russia suffer some casualties? Sure, but they would steam roll Ukraine.

Crimea is the only place that is majority ethnic Russian. Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts are majority ethnic Ukrainian.
