Restrictions on pilot weight put in place by the Air Force for F-35 pilots could be lifted by April. Martin-Baker has completed modifications to the
ejection seat, and Raytheon modified the helmet to reduce risk of injury during the ejection process.
Tests of the modifications show a significantly reduced pressure on the pilot's neck when the seat fires. The next step will be taken in March when
EMI testing will occur, to ensure the seat only activates when commanded. After that, the Air Force will make a final decision, based on the
recommendation of the test team.
