Death to america! or is it ?

2 days ago Iranians celebrated the 38th anniversary of their revolution with million man marches all across the country.

it was a celebration of freedom, a celebration of having the right to vote and a celebration democracy. yes you heard me right!! Iranian democracy ! in which people have 80% voter turnouts (30% higher than self-proclaimed cradle of democracy) even in parliamentary elections.

So whatever anybody calls our system, we wouldn't care cause we like it. call it theocracy, dictatorship,semi-democracy (as some MSM call it), or whatever. people like it here .

So here is the funny thing: Millions of people poured into the streets all over Iran, yet not a single MSM acknowledged that and instead there are 3 articles in NYT about how Iran got scared of US and it completely undermines the whole notion and logic behind 22bahman rallies.

First of all, nowhere in the world do we have any rally on this scale:





secondly, Iranians pour into streets not to burn US flags but to celebrate their country. so this is a celebration rather than a protest! most of these people don't give a damn about politics and what US does.







Thirdly, lets talk about the whole logic behind "Death to America" slogan. as Iranian leader once said :

"The slogan 'death to America' is backed by reason and wisdom; and it goes without saying that the slogan does not mean death to the American nation; this slogan means death to the U.S.'s policies, death to arrogance."

So this is not a slogan to condemn the US as a country, its a slogan to condemn US policies. one of the reasons behind this confusion which was used by MSM to achieve their goals is the literal translation of the word "مرگ بر" in English. we also say "مرگ بر هوای سرد" which literally means "death to cold weather". sounds stupid, doesn't it? all those people who claim they lived in Iran in the other thread can confirm this if they really did

the better translation is "down with". although that still doesn't cut it well.

they (MSM) post limited and rare incidences of US flag burning and feed you with nonsense. US flag is even burned by US citizens inside the US. does it mean they hate the people or the nation? also, these incidents have been very rare and condemned since the beginning of the rallies 38 years ago

Plenty of westerners disagree with American politics. We all hold hope that Trump will change things for the better and stop the imperialist drive the USA has been on for the last 15 odd years.

Thank you for posting this... Many @ ATS know better than to believe anything the MSN puts out.... but... even I never blinked an eye or doubted the original MSN story.. Kinda sucks when what you are told and what you are shown seems to always have a hidden agenda behind the words and pictures.. Iran is being pushed as a terrorist country probably because they are so successful in the fight against ISIS in Syria and at Israel's pushing.... S&F

Here is a simple practical test. I am a veteran of many demonstrations in the US and the UK.
Everyone should go out to an open space.
Walk two hundred yards shouting the following slogan.
“We love American people who disagree with American policies”.
Then walk another 200yds shouting the following slogan.
“Death to America”
Ask yourself three questions:
1. Which is easier to yell?
2. Which is easier to rile up your fellow marchers?
3. Which is easier to yell and remain intelligible?
Homework
Which is easier to yell
1) Lock her up? Or
2) Lock her up if she is tried in a court of law and found guilty?

Iran is not a democracy it has a supreme leader their head of state is NOT elected.

And i suppose you're going to say that when they want the destruction of Israel they're only protesting that also.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei hand-picks everybody who runs for president. Moderates are rejected routinely. Only the less-moderate of the moderates—the ones who won’t give Khamenei excessive heartburn if they win—are allowed to run at all. Liberal and leftist candidates are rejected categorically

The "supreme" leader or simply leader as we call him, is voted by the people.

There is a council of experts who are voted directly by people and they are responsible for electing the leader .

So there is that.

Also, people directly elect the president and the parliament members. parliament members write the constitution and they can change the law if they deem necessary. they can even dissolve the position of the leader in a referendum .

The existing constitution was also putted on referendum, not once but 2 times already.

voter turnout is about 80% so as you can see, people believe that their voices are heard unlike many western "democracies".

as i said you are free to call it whatever you like. Iranians are the ones who are supposed to be happy and they are happy with it. you're in no position to mock that.

Term length = Life tenure

Great thread haman , all to often people get caught up in what there belief of a country is without understanding the reality on the ground , I hope your thread will act as an eye opener for some of those people.

All any of us want is peace and stability , sadly some of our representatives either don't understand that or have their own agendas to serve.

If the "Death to America" slogan was accompanied by a picture of the Statue of Liberty then perhaps you could assume they mean the country but as it is they obviously mean the regime.
