What does DoEd do? : Take our money, hire bad managers who serve badly managed education.

Bernie Saunders wanted to stop charging students for publically funded education. I agree with that. There are lots of problems in the US Public Schools.

Let's git-rid of all those badly written college professor books that are only available in the college school stores.

I suggest watching this video.....it is a sad story of how students are the big losers in our education system, how education administrators really rob students.

With one exception -- wait until the left stops rioting on campus every time a group brings in a conservative to give a speech.

Until then, those taxpayer funded loans and grants can be cut off to those unis who clearly support the rioting the same way Berkeley did.

Think about it people.

Before the DOE. We put man on the moon.

WHAT have we done since it?

Since then we have managed to prove that it never happened.

Absurd. And also not a part of this discussion.

I've been sort of halfheartedly following the Betsy DeVos drama surrounding her appointment as Secretary of Education

She's perfect;

The Educational System Was Designed to Keep Us Uneducated and Docile

I actually wonder if perhaps Trump chose DeVos specifically to dismantle the entire department. He figured it didn't matter if she had no experience in the education sector (because she does not), since she wouldn't be doing that sort of work anyhow. Her job was to sunset the Department of Education and to be a patsy for the left to blame for dismantling the entire thing.

Why are all these idiots whining about her not being a teacher then?

Probably because Bush's "No Child Left Behind" program held everyone back.

It gave us a generation of SJW idiots who need safe spaces, and who want us to roll back the clock to things like segregated dorms.

Because of that fact, people are understandably leery of handing over the reigns to another partisan conservative (especially one with no practical experience in the field).

Putting someone with teaching experience in the position would at least place someone there who actually understands what schools need, and the struggles they face.

Why should education be at state/local level?

So that science classes can be replaced with creationist theory, and teaching kids that the earth is only 6000 years old.

Yes, DeVos wants to funnel that money toward vouchers.

Specifically for Christian schools.

"There are not enough philanthropic dollars in America to fund what is currently the need in education...Our desire is to confront the culture in ways that will continue to advance God's kingdom."

Because we're a nation of laws, and it's in the constitution. The 10th amendment states that anything NOT specifically outlined in the constitution falls to the states to manage. There is nothing in the constitution about public education, thus it falls to the states.

Now if we're talking about an amendment to the constitution to move education to the federal level, then that's a legitimate argument to have, but until then we should not have a Dept. of Education, and it should all be handled locally as per the rule of law.
