You know, I mostly identify as nothing at all, but I suppose some type of quiz or test would label me as a libertarian. I don't have anything really wrong with the views of people who identify with the left, or the right - I do have my opinion on a lot of things that don't fall in line with exactly what is most commonly advocated for on either side, but I do see the merit or agree with things from both sides, and don't specifically dislike either side based on policy and legislation and stances.

That being said, I REALLY dislike the left ( or rather, a subset of people that identify with the left ) based on their actions, and my interactions with them.

I joined a new social website yesterday to see if I could relate to others, make friends, and such - And while I'm sure I could, I spent something like a half hour to an hour on the front page and nearly instantly I was being tossed into a bucket of crap for the dumbest things - One lady berated me as a terrible human being because I like cheese, for instance. A little later we were in a different discussion, and screw me because I like meat, too - I need to be vegan and enviro-friendly according to her eyes or fu** me eh?

Another man made a thread asking if people would be upset if he admitted to identifying with communism and socialism - Huge list of replies, mostly of people saying " You're trash if you don't still identify with it "

Anti trump posts, of course.

And this was just following the front page for a while, it's quite an active place so I did get to see probably a hundred or so threads - Many were just random things about food ,travel, daily lives - But a significant enough amount were just liberals on their pulpit getting ready to trash those that didn't identify with the same things they did - And even the daily lives threads were invaded by these types of people.

I fire up the internet, and it's always liberals causing a mess. From Sander-followers rioting at Trumps rallies, and somehow Trump getting the blame, to the newest UC Berkeley - Which somehow is still blamed on a different party despite no evidence.

Anyways, I don't really care for right-wing stuff, either - Recently unfollowed a couple facebook friends because they post stuff that is just not based on any amount of truth, and is just gotten right out of the Faux news/Blaze hand-book. ( Like showing a picture of snakes and asking " which one will bite you? " - And saying that's how we should judge muslims - Like we don't know which one is going to hurt us, but they all might. .... Wrong. )

BUT - That's much less often than getting liberal junk popping up on my screen. I don't care if you don't think the actual President is "your president" I don't care for your latest SJW actions, I don't care whether or not you think I should put my canine teeth to use. Keep that crap to yourselves unless you want a reasonable debate/honest discourse - I'm all willing to admit animals are often raised wrong in their respective industries, I'm all for free-range organic based on the dual benefit it has to animals and to us as we get healthier food - But to shove your opinion down my throat and make a new social site useless unless I used the block button all day is just stupid.

Keep on keeping on, snowflakes, you're going to cause a war.
( Not with me, though - I live in a tiny rural community that's conservative/independent/libertarian, I'll just turn my stuff off and ignore you when I can)

All that budgies do is sit on the fence playing both sides thus preventing positive progress in the interest of the larger majority. You want effective change then f.ck the liberals. A non polly maverick with nouse and balls is the only type that can change the staus quo!

What is so truly funny, and what is right in front of your face, is that you, sir, are every bit as antagonistic as those you condemn.

Really?

You don't know me.

You know I posted an opinion in the mud-pit section of ATS, that is all.

You have no idea how I treat other people.

No, I don't fill facebook full of partisan crap that's meant to divide.

I definitely don't smash the windows of shops and banks when I'm throwing a childish fit.

I've never lit anything on fire during a tantrum, I promise.

I actually get along with the people I live around - Utah seems to be a different place. I get along with the conservatives, libertarians, independents, and liberals here. Obviously I disagree with some of their views, but I've never been sh** on for liking meat and I've never crapped on anyone else for believing in outlawing guns, or upping regulations ( I'm very pro-second ) - We're just nicer to each other.

The internet brings out the worst in everyone.

Unfortunately, some people have to go actually light a car on fire in real life, they can't just keep their edgy disagreements behind a screen.

You may not have noticed but your post has a theme.... You must conform to their values or else and it is not a choice.

Am I wrong?

No, I think your'e right, it happens on both sides, but I am bombarded with more from the left when surfing the web - Trust me, being bombarded with "God will send you to hell if you don't believe a fetus is sacred " bothers me just as much as "I will personally hate you if you don't support minorities the way I do " - It's not about agreeing or disagreeing with their stance on an issue, it's disagreeing with their actions and attitude that come with that stance.

I'm in the mudpit, so I'm honestly just flinging shi* here, but on these forums I've seen plenty of reasonable debates for and against other things, I used to be extremely right/conservative but have switched more towards the middle, seeing the logic, honesty, and merit of many ideas here on the forums that changed me.

But in general, I get more crap from the left for being in the middle, than I do from anyone else.

Damn liberals stole our future.

If it wasn't for liberals we'd all have jetpacks already.

Just watch Tomorrowland, they had plans for disclosure but the liberals ruined it all. Disney was involved in this until they were taken over.

For a second, I thought you were doing a review on ATS.

It's a true though, flick through the channels or surf the web and it's mostly the left doing some crazy thing or complaining about Trump.

Take heart. The whole world is not like that. Probably the only people that stick around on a forum like that are the ones who are building a little bubble where everyone agrees with them.

Anyone who dislikes the atmosphere is probably leaving. That does not make them the minority. It just means that they are living outside of that bubble and don't want to bother with the idiocy and abuse.

I have been realizing that more intelligent people are generally calmer and more reserved, and less likely to flip out in discussions. I think the ones who are quickly angered and attack are using some kind of defense mechanism. I have not figured out if that is due to an inferiority complex, or due to the inflated egos they get from existing in their bubble.

Living in such a bubble does not make people smarter or more informed. It is quite the opposite actually. It is calm discussion, even with those with opposing views, that opens peoples minds to ideas they might not have considered previously. Being attacked does not do anything other than turn people away from even trying to listen.

Unfortunately, it seems that colleges and universities are becoming such bubbles. I hope that the silent ones are watching and learning.

Lol, I wouldn't go quite as far as to say they have changed things this much, not yet. Even up into the 90's when our economy was prosperous, they weren't as loud of a group as they are now.

The Media honestly exists to divide people and ensure things stay the way they should - People at each others throats over minor partisan issues and such, rather than making progress together and over-throwing corruption altogether.

The left is just providing that fuel the most right now, at least, as far as what I've been exposed to.

Hi, I'm just going by what you post here.. which is also an internet forum.

It seems as if we have a lot in common.

I have never thrown a rock through a window either!

I have never started a fire outside of a fire pit, barbecue, or hearth!

I, too, get along with people I meet. I actually really like people and go out of my way to smile, hold doors for, and say hello to people of all ages, etc.

But I also have never written a post with the sole intention of insulting random people online.

Everytime I see another post insulting "leftists" on this site, I think of my aging democrat parents who have done nothing but good for our society, contributed and worked hard their whole lives.. hell..most people I meet says that my dad is the kindest man they know (really he is just a great guy) and I get pissed! I don't like people insulting a large subset of my parents/family/friends. Does that make sense?

"( or rather, a subset of people that identify with the left )" - That's why I said this, I did not mean to paint with a wide brush. I do not think all liberals are bad people - But just more that the most often, the bad people I'm exposed to, identify as liberal.I do admit this is not an actual indicator or statistic, though.

Honestly, I try to have calm, quiet discussions. Here , for instance.

But, do you notice that this mud-pit thread has the same amount of attention in half an hour as that one does in a few months?

If a boat requires everyone paddles or else it doesn't go anywhere - That's the situation I feel like I'm in. I want to be in the same boat with other people, but we're not all paddling - Or cooperating in the same way.

Not to say that others need to particularly respond to MY specific efforts of calm speech, just to say I haven't experienced as many replies in those situations.

"( or rather, a subset of people that identify with the left )"

Is what I purposely said, as I don't think 100% of those that identify with the left, are bad.

I'm saying that the people that are "bad" for me, often identify with the left.

When I lived in a large, conservative, crazy christian community in utah - It was the opposite. I HAD to get away from that place.

Not aligning with their personal agendas and beliefs has become the new - not aligning with those others religious beliefs - for me. It's what I run into more these days

Fair enough.

I don't think most people are working toward a middle ground here.. whether it be Facebook, Twitter, ATS, on the streets, in our homes etc.

Be a part of the solution!

Accept our tolerant ways or else! This will no doubt be the first time in history where we had it all figured out and have achieved complete virtue without flaw and are the pinnacle of human understanding and progress. The science is settled, the debate is settled and there is no longer any need for debate or tolerance of wrong thought because we couldn't posiblie be wrong.

Too many people have that mentality... maybe not that extreme but close to it.
