One Jew Left in Afghanistan

After the death of the caretaker of Afghanistan's only function synagogue, there is believed to remain one single jew in the entire country, Zebulon Simentov.

A 45-year-old man is believed to have become the last Jew in Afghanistan after the death of the caretaker of the only functioning synagogue in Kabul.

It has emerged that the caretaker, Ishaq Levin, aged about 80, died of natural causes about a week ago.

His Jewish neighbour, Zebulon Simentov, lived with Mr Levin in the synagogue.

The two men got on badly, and Mr. Simentov does not grieve for his 'companion.' They fought constantly, and he blames the late Mr. Levin for the destruction of the synagogue's Torah. Simentov also claims Levin tried to get him killed.

"...Now I am the Jew here, I am the boss."
